General Motors was busy celebrating the 10th anniversary of the company's North Hollywood Advanced Design Center last night, even going so far as to unveil the Cadillac Urban Concept to mark the occasion. While the futuristic-looking concept is interesting enough in its own right, our curiosity has been piqued by what was on the wall behind the design study. Look close, and you'll see one big, hulking SUV the likes of which we've never seen before. Could this be our first look at the next-generation Cadillac Escalade? It's entirely possible. The big, body-on-frame beast hasn't received a significant update since 2007.

With its over-sized grille, fender arches and C-pillar, it's apparent that this this is little more than a design concept, though it could give us a peak into where Cadillac envisions its big-money SUV heading in the near future. Head over to the GM Inside News forum for another look. Thanks for the tip, Ed!

UPDATE: We're told that this is in no way the next Escalade. Instead, the vehicle you see above is just one of many designs that the Advanced Design Center showed off as part of its portfolio of recent work. That means that we won't be seeing this machine on the road any time soon.

Just when you thought the Escalade couldn't get any uglier......
I'd have to see it again with more similarly sized wheels to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that thing is a total dog.
Oh my, what big wheels you got...
...All the better for thieves to steal.

I dont know what everyone else is seeing but I think that would look bad@ss for an Escalade...

I can see the tour of the design studio now, "Over here we have the new Escalade, oh dear lord it's escaped! Lock down, lock down! It's got me, noooo!!!" In other words, my eyes haven't hurt this bad since I got my face stuck in a pencil sharpener, which was never. I did like the Urban concept though, especially for the European markets.

That would not be a good update for the Escalade.

thats damn close to the ugliest thing i've ever seen. A little more kitchen appliance, a little less hummer, and you'd have an aztek.

Current gen looks way better than that crap!

No, it's not an Escalade. But it may well be a Lambda (i.e., Enclave, Traverse).

Yeah, I agree, it's not progress on the A&S front. But I do like the window treatment, with the big blind glassed over C pillar.

      I sure hope not!

The 07-present Caddy might be one of the classiest Luxury SUV's on the market.

They are just plain foul (good thing) in my book. I just wonder how they can top this generation that is currently out, This concept if even somewhat true shows the way they are heading with it, I will be disappointed.

It looks like an H3 Escalade.
Exactly. Thought it was some sort of old Hummer concept that Caddy tried their grille on to see what it might look like
