Call of Duty: Black Ops Jeep Wrangler in action – Click above to watch video after the jump

The holiday season really is the most wonderful time of the year for those of us who dabble in video games. Studios nearly always release a deluge of mind-bending titles toward this end of the calendar, and this year is no different. While Gran Turismo 5 and Fallout New Vegas are likely to pull down quite a few hard-earned dollars, few are as hotly anticipated as the newest installment in the Call of Duty franchise – Black Ops. Even Jeep has gotten in on the action by releasing a special-edition Wrangler to commemorate the game.

The SUV shows up in gameplay, and Activision has been so kind as to release a trailer of the Wrangler doing what it does best – running down baddies amidst a hail of explosions and gunfire. You can hit the jump to see the brief clip for yourself.

Give me an Old Willys or CJ5,shorter wheelbase, no comforts but a true "old" jeep. These Wranglers come out of a crackerjack box. No way would a video game entice me to buy a vehical, although I cant argue the fact it reaches a younger demographic.

I'll take the Leisure Suit Larry edition. You know...the one with the hot tub in the back filled with big naturally breasted women. Yum.

That's not really new. Any game by Tom Clancy had Chryslers in it. The Original Xbox game Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory had Jeep Grand Cherokees in it. Both Ghost Recon Advanded Warfighter games had Dodge Avengers in game and billboards with Chargers on them. The last two Rainbow Six Vegas games had Chargers, Magnums, Rams, Nitros, Sprinters, Calibers and even a single Challenger which appeared after its official release a few years ago.

I suppose what makes this different though is that Jeep made a REAL car to comemorate the one in game. But still. Chrysler had their hand in Video Game marketing for years.

Someone explain to me how a 2011 model jeep ends up in a Vietnam era game?

      Anyone?
um, ok. This is actually the 2050 jeep, and at that time we've already got time travel licked.... turned out to be pretty simple, actually....
Um, it's not the same vehicle as the 2011 model. It IS period correct, wranglers just happen to not have changed much over the years, in the exterior visual department anyways. Well or any department, really.

That's the Government for ya. They've had a time machine for years lol.

@heavygear: I don't think Jeeps looked like that back then, and it's actually not all that close to the current model either. It looks more like it uses the frame of the old Jeep Unlimited (before the 4-door Unlimited).

      I WANT THE NUKAIZER NAOW...

Am I the only one who thinks this is really cheesy?

They are charging a premium for essentially putting some badges on this vehicle. There isn't anything on here that you can't get from the Mopar catalog and do it yourself for less.

Something tells me video game edition cars are probably not going to catch on.
Probably not, but this says a lot about video games and how far they moved on in the last couple of years... Right now, its the biggest entertainment industry :)
Not at the prices the automakers charge for the "special editions", anyway.

Doesn't even matter what media you take the edition from, or how many people recognize the reference. Charge $30,000 for a Jeep Wrangler Avatar Edition in Na'vi Blue, $5,000 extra with no special features, and you're not going to get any more buyers than if you just sold them a Sahara or Rubicon.
