Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

This set of spy photos landed in our inbox showing what appears to be a modified version of the giant-slaying Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG prepping for testing. Our spies indicate that this could be a high-powered Black Series version of the M3-killing C-Class, rumored to have around 510 horsepower. You know, because the standard 451-hp C63 just isn't sweet enough.

We know that the next-generation C-Class is due to arrive within the next couple of years (before the facelifted version arrives in 2011), so perhaps this is a sort of last hurrah for the top-dog C63. We can clearly see the tacked-on wider fender flares and front wheels similar to those that debuted on the CLK Black Series a few years back, and our spies suggest that a larger front spoiler and new rear diffuser will be added, as well. Power will still come from the same 6.2-liter V8 currently found in the C63, mated to a seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission.

We're still a bit skeptical as to whether or not this is actually a full-on Black Series treatment. All we know is, we certainly wouldn't kick a 510-hp C63 AMG out of bed.

isnt there already a C63 black series???
Um no. There's just the CLK63 and SL65 that have Black Series variants.

      $80k++ C Class...........
it is so smart of automakers to do these last hurah super upgrades to a model they are phazing out.

Why don't they go back to the 190SL? Sweet car - easy to maintain. When I was a 28 year old nurse, I rotated my own tires. I drove those cars all over New England without a glitch. Without a heater, too. Only "running" heat. But I had 2 of them over a 7 year period and really loved them.

      Those flares look terrible.

hahaha, until you meat the guy @ the TüV station.

literally 99,9999999% of all tuned / homebuild cars in the U.S. would not get true.
because the car wouldn't comply with the data from the vihicles papers and the added parts have no aproval seal (CE).

        : )

but the U.S. is getting there .... slowly ... but true, a fuel injected car is pretty hard to convert to be carburator operated.

I am pretty sure those are temps so they can run it on the road for testing, but you were kidding.................?
Umm, they are just stuck on the stock body for testing purposes (to accomodate the wider tires).

Bored of this, bored of them. At the point where the cars are practically designing themselves, is when you take a step back and think "do we need another Black Series? Would we be better employed trying to come up with something original? Is this the best we can do? Is there a better market to serve than the medallion wearers? What is jump the shark in the German?"

Then you think, nah and you start creating the Sprinter Black Series, because you're lazy.

but ACR vipers, V-spec GT-Rs, or ZR1 Corvettes, to mention only a few, are ok?
        What?????

You have NO idea what goes into them, do you???

        Ignorant comment.

Thats one ugly mercedes. i miss the days of when they had some hard lines and square headlights now just another egg on wheels in appearence.
I wish Mercedes would have the guts just one time put a manual 6-speed in one of their specialty track/hardcore geared cars. Oh well, guess they will continue to lose business like mine to BMW and Audi.
Most people who own a Mercedes can't drive a stick.. Paddles are confusing enough for them..
You say that like their loss of business from you actually matters. Mercedes-Benz has been around for over 100 years, I don't think 1 person is going to make a dent in their business.
If you've driven the C63 and felt wanting for the manual, fair enough. If not, there really is no real need to have a manual, considering the 7 speed auto is already pretty damn fast, even though it's still slower than the MCT in the E63 and SLS... People track the C63 too so that says something about the automatic....
an AMG with a manual would be too much awesome for a normal person to handle.

This is going to be sweet... too bad the price isnt going to be too...
That's going to be one hot bratwurst.

I really wish they would go balls to the wall and add the new bi-turbo V8 though. ~580hp would be insane.
I've driven all the AMG products and the C63 is by far the most fun to drive because it is so easy to through around. Just imagine a black series C-class . . . that thing would be an absolute monster!
How is a car that is likely to costs almost $20,000 more going to be a "killer?"

Sizeaside it seems to be in a different category at the rumored $80,000+ price tag (even though the M3 price tag is nothing to shake a stick at)
Why wont they make a E63 coupe? They have AMG in pretty much every other car...
they were afraid the E63 coupe AMG would cannibalize the CLS 63 AMG, at least that's the official statement. it's too bad , because the E coupe just screams for an AMG engine.

the new C Coupe will get an AMG version.
