2011 Honda CR-Z – Click above for high-res image gallery

For the third year in a row, a Honda alternative fuel vehicle has won a Good Design Award from the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization (JIDPO). The FCX Clarity won in 2008, the Insight hybrid won in 2009 and this year it was the CR-Z hybrid's turn, based on the car's "originality." The judges said the:
uncompromising pursuit of aerodynamics of the roof and the flow from the front to the side and quarter panels of the CR-Z as a beautifully finished design which could redefine the benchmark to determine "the attraction of cars".
Five other Honda products – three motorcycles (the VFR1200F, the VT1300CX and the PCX scooter), the STEPWGN MPV and the Enepo EU9iGB portable power generator – also won Good Design Awards this year. JIDPO has been giving out these awards for over 50 years and, in that time, about 35,000 products have received awards.

About Good Design Awards

The Good Design Awards is a comprehensive program for the evaluation and encouragement of design organised by Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organisation (JIDPO). Good Design Awards have been given to outstanding designs for more than 50 years and to this date approximately 35,000 products have received awards.

The most distinguished designs are selected from those submitted for consideration for the Good Design Awards. These designs are screened by about 70 design experts, who select and recommend those designs worthy of awards. The Good Design Awards is a system that aims to channel the eminent powers of distinctive designs to build prosperous lives and encourage sound industrial development. It is a campaign to brighten and enrich society through design.

I think there's no denying that the CR-Z is a stylish car, definitely the best looking hybrid ever marketed. It's just a crying shame that that's the only thing it's good at.

i'm pretty sure it's a decent car to drive. People have insane expectations. its a sporty hybrid. i'd not a prius or a tesla.

I'm sure it's decent, but when you're competing with the Mazda2, Fiesta, and even the Fit from your own company and your vehicle performs no better, has less space, and costs 30% more in exchange for 10% better fuel economy, I feel like you need a little bit more to merit a purchase.

I wanted to love the CR-Z, it's just a vehicle that does nothing all that well - even (or maybe especially) in its class - except look pretty.

I saw one of these the other day that got the full Rice treatment. coffee can exhaust and every chrome item that could be found at pepboys. I think these cars are ugly to begin with. But the pepboy special really took the cake. I wish i had a camera.

I don't think either companies produce riced out cars. Its the owners that throw tons of non functional bits and pieces on the car to make their car look like its faster or make it louder so more people notice them that annoys me. I am don't like hondas in general as my only experience with them has been horrible.

Let me guess, you would rather see Honda produce a factory RICED out car like Mitsubushi does!
