The Stig on 60 Minutes – Click above to watch video after the jump

Good news if you haven't had your fill of Stigate just yet: the world's ex-famous tame racing driver will show up on this week's 60 Minutes. According to CBS, host Steve Croft spent some time across the pond in an attempt to get a little closer to both the man in white and Top Gear. Croft even strapped into a Chevrolet Camaro SS for a little one-on-one time with the Stig himself. Unfortunately, The Stig didn't turn out to be the quote machine the CBS producers had hoped.

Judging by the short trailer for the piece, it looks like Croft also spent some time with a few of the more talkative people involved in putting the show together, including Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond and executive producer Andy Wilman. The show airs this Sunday, October 24 at 7 p.m. EST. Hit the jump for a look at the teaser.

Nice to see Top Gear getting more attention from the mainstream media in America.

How do you interview a man who doesn't speak?
        That was my thought!

Now, even if they interviewed Ben Collins, and not the Stig, one shouldn't be surprised he's not a quote-machine. Collins wasn't hired to be a personality, he was hired to be a high-speed demonstration driver and off-camera instructor. It wasn't his job to be a personality.

And this is why I refuse to be sorry for him. He was hired for a specific job, did it well (well, until Rubens Barrichello beat his time around the track...ahem...), but he decided it wasn't enough.

This really is amazing. TG on 60 minutes?? They should be proud to be on the USs biggest news magazine considering they don't (really) air here!

Not necessarily. From the way the video ended, it seems like the 60 minutes special might be on how they make so much money off Stiggy's image, without giving the Stig (Ben Collins) his due. Even though they were paying him a ridiculous salary to drive the worlds best cars for a living. Poor guy.

      Top Gear on 60 Minutes?

That sound you hear is the shark being jumped...

The title of this AB article is misleading. The piece on 60 Minutes is all about the amazing success of Top Gear. Of course they will mention the Stig, who is an integral character on the show. They will probably even mention the whole Ben Collins thing at the end of the piece as a means of updating it too.
In the end, people beyond the auto enthusiast crowd will get a glimpse into something they never new existed, and that is a good thing. Maybe if more people are attracted to the show, it will stand a chance of coming to America real-time instead of one season behind as it's been.
I love the show, and have gotten many non-automotive people interested in the show over the years. I think Jeremy sums it up quite well, when asked about the show's success:
"It's a weekly occurrence that somebody will complain…but if you start to pay attention to everybody's concerns, you end up with something bland and boring."

I got to see this for sure.
Oh I'm definitely watching this. I wonder if Jeremy is going to call the Stig a greedy t**t again.
Did you read the article? It's not about Ben - hell it dates back from the Camaro review.

Richard spoke in the interview as if the Alabama thing was totally real. I still don't believe it.

Why would they interview that clone? 99% of Americans don't even know the stig. Of that small portion who knows the character few give a damn about the chimp inside the helmet.
Because it's 60 minutes/CBS, Katy Kurich reads poems and 60 minutes interviews people/does a piece on someone no one [you know what I mean] cares about (in the US).

...That or they've got a vested interest in the History show.
