Here in the good 'ole United States of America, we like things big... and small. Over in UK, they can have their reasonably priced cars, we don't need 'em. We're putting a Big Star in a Small Car instead.
Naturally, the premise is the same. Take one name-brand celebrity and place them behind the wheel of a run-of-the-mill car available to the masses here in America and send them around a makeshift race track. While the British version of Top Gear currently uses a Kia Cee'd for star-shuttling duty, America's TG spin-off will feature a Suzuki SX4.

For what it's worth, we had a couple of guys in the audience during the taping of the U.S. show's first episode and we had signed statements restricting us from publishing this information. Apparently, though, it's been leaked by either someone at Top Gear or by Suzuki.

In any case, we genuinely like Suzuki's little runabout. It's not particularly fast, but it's an able handler and it has the beans to pull itself around a track quickly enough. Plus, it's pretty reasonably priced... not that we care, of course. And, as you'd expect from any show that carries the name Top Gear, there will indeed be an American Stig. Current internet rumormongering suggests that F1-ace Rubens Barrichello is the American Stig, but that hasn't been, nor is it likely to be, officially confirmed.

In related news, some of the American stars that will be piloting the SX4 include Tim Allen, Buzz Aldrin, Ty Burrell, Tony Hawk, Bret Michaels, Dominic Monaghan, Kid Rock and Michelle Rodriguez. Suitably big stars?

It's all a trick they put a short stalky guy there to make you think it's Rubens cuz he slaughtered UK stig's track time but really it's just some other schmuck.
      the stig is really short.
        Either that...

...or "black-shirt guy (BSG)" is really tall, AND The Stig's sideleg-mounted "member" is really happy to see BSG, thus making him look wider and even shorter.

Some say he is the test tube child of an LP and Ferdinand Piech...

I hope he can see through that helmet. Take me to your leader. :)

Is that a wire coming out of the stig's crotch?

...some say, his penis requires an independent external power source.....

I wonder if this reasonably priced car will be manual shift like the original brit version. I am sure most celebrities here (like most people) cant drive stick.

It's the Stig's Japanese cousin. American cousin won't fit in to a proper sorts car, as we've seen in episode 9-3
      • 4 Years Ago
I thought the American Stig was supposed to be the British Stig's fat cousin. I guess that wouldn't really appeal to viewers' tastes
        • 4 Years Ago
Fat Stig had lap band surgery lol

Hopefully the show will be good enough to last long enough that we get to see some of those stars.

They need to have sport compact shootouts and reviews of average priced US market cars for me to tune into the show. If I want to see Lamborghini and Audi I will just watch Top Gear UK.

If they do stupid stunts and it is torture to listen to the hosts then the show is doomed.

. . . I think the stars going around the track MUST steer with the left hand while holding a 'Big Slurpy' with the their right since it probably will be an 'automatic' transmission on this TGA.

Most race car drivers aren't very tall anyway. I hope the makeshift track is decent. and the commentary is actually good. From watching Tanner Foust on "Battle of the Supercars" I do not have high hopes for an engaging take on the British classic. They should have found funny radio people with some car knowledge like the original did.

Anyway, cheers to TGA. Hope it takes off well.

If they had used the NPR Car Guys, this show would be an instant hit.

Tanner Foust = zzzzzzzzzzzzzz snore zzzzzzzzzzzz

I don't need another close up shot of a car, some R&B beat, another close up shot, a boring gag about getting a speeding ticket, some girls, another close up shot, and then a read of the press release from the manufacturer.

CR-Z would have been a better choice, but o well.

What do you mean American Stig??? You must be referring to the Stig's American cousin
