2012 Ford Focus ST in action – Click above to watch video after the jump

Ford has been so kind as to unleash a video of the Focus ST on the interwebs, giving us all our first glimpse at the hopped-up hatch on open pavement. Don't expect any apex-clipping shots of the five-door going hard over through a set of twisties, though; this video is largely comprised of a lackadaisical romp through the countryside. That's fine, though. Even without any 9/10ths driving action, the Focus ST still looks plenty lust-worthy from our point of view.

Of course, that probably has plenty to do with the fact that this is the first genuine sports-oriented version of the Focus we've even had a whiff of since the mighty Focus SVT went belly up back in 2004. But whereas the SVT brought a mere 170 horsepower to the table, the ST should boast a more heady 247 ponies and 266 lb-ft of torque from an EcoBoost 2.0-liter four-pot.

So long as Ford can slap a decent suspension and tolerable gearbox into the craft, there should be much to love when the car hits our shores in 2012. Hit the jump to have a look for yourself.

Throw in a 6-Speed Proper Manual or a Proper Flappy Paddle DSG (Fiesta has a DSG but no flappy paddles). Time to trade in my car!

      I prefer the RS.

        or the Yazz-bow

Who wouldn't? While we're at it, I'd prefer a WRC-spec Focus. But this ST looks to be something we will actually be able to obtain here...

Just a tune away from being RS-powered.

I can't wait to see these on our roads.

I'll probably end up owning one of the price is right.

We still need the Kuga and the Transit.

        Get those here ASAP.

Imagine how upscale and aggressive this would look in black. I would almost call it sophisticated in a darker color... I think the styling is very very nice!

        Ditto.
Been a long time since we were able to buy a domestic hot hatch.

I think i like this whole Ford Goes Global thing.

I can't help but think "sanitary towel" every time I hear about this car. Thanks a lot Top Gear.

      Two words:
      Engine Sound....

Where is it, thats the entire reason I watched this clip...

A turbo woosh drowning out a crappy four pot, as available in cars worldwide. I doubt it'll be special. Even the big cylinder engines are being toned down in anything but the fastest cars.

Interesting, but I doubt this will be as nice to drive as the MazdaSpeed3, or the Mini Countryman All4. Plus, even with the mazda's giant grinning front I think it manages to look better than the grill on this thing...

      My next car.

This will be a global Focus model available? The ST, right?...

When it hits here, I'll actually go in a dealer in the goal of coming out of there with that Focus right there...

Great car, but the lack of awd is going to bump it from my list...

Here's hoping they'll finally bring over a "true" RS to the states! *crosses fingers*
      • 4 Years Ago
There is a big reason the RS wont be offered here. They are trying to sell them in Mexico City.....for 47,000.00 . Sorry folks that wont fly here. For that kind of money you can get a real car....not many are going to spend 47 thou on a Green turd blossom like this.

dude, the americans prices are unrealistic.

i even suspect many loos money on the americans market.

most americans cars are barely 4 wheels, a body and a old big engine and that's it.

I want it, I just hope they keep it sub-$25k, to make it sensible. I have an SRT-4 and love it aside from some interior gripes; it's lot's of fun. This could be a replacement in the future.

Please keep that sexy LED headlamp array for the states. So disappointed the Sedan isn't getting this setup. (To say nothing of the lack ST in sedan flavor.)
