2011 Bentley Continental GT – Click above for high-res image gallery

The Mulsanne is still fresh. The new Continental GT has just arrived on scene. Bentley will undoubtedly have its hands full creating another couple of variations of each, but it's not about to stop there. According to emerging reports from the British Isles, Crewe is planning a four-door coupe or five-door hatch to take on the likes of the Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera.

The reports come courtesy of Auto Express, who spoke with Bentley chief Dr. Franz-Josef Paefgen about the company's plans for the future, and this is what reportedly came up. Although styling is anticipated to follow the cues from the new Continental, the four-door coupe, if approved, would likely borrow its underpinnings from the Audi A7 while employing the new 4-liter V8 being co-developed with Audi. Pricing, meanwhile, could undercut the Continental and give Bentley a new entry-level model. One with a sleeker roofline to boot.

      "four-door coupe"

      Sigh...
Agreed. Stop calling it a "four-door coupe". It's a sedan, albeit a curvy one.

How dare you say it's not a coupe! I ought to get over to your house on my four-wheeled bicycle and teach you a lesson!

Dear God, best comment EVER. Thank you very much.

        Mr. Roadrage,

I'm sorry, but I can't see the term "four-door coupe" as anything other than a marketing ploy for carmakers that don't want to call their sedans "sedans" and their SUVs "SUVs".

        (BMW & Acura say hi)

I bet you live in one of those 2-storey bungalows, too...
A coupe can have four doors. The term simply denotes a cut down roof line. For instance, the Rover P5 was available as a saloon or a coupe, both of which had 4 doors. By the same token, not all 2-doors are coupes. They can be called 2-door saloons if their roof follows a more formal, squared off line.

Except they said it would be spotted below the continental gt therefore making it less expensive

Hey Bentley, here's the wagon. Hop right in!
It's a sedan with coupe-like styling cues. Stop this madness!

Does Bentley even have a sense of itself anymore?

Is there really room between the Continental coupe and the Flying Spur sedan, as well as the Mulsanne in the lineup?

Those three seem to pretty much cover it... actually. Bentley isn't supposed to be a huge lineup, just a few exemplary cars.

This would be pretty cool and could be priced between the panamera and rapide

        Pengwin,

        Your comment makes no sense.
This car is clearly going to be cheaper than the Continental GT, they made that clear.
It is going to compete with the Rapide which is $200,000 and the Panamera which is up to $150,000.
Seeing as this is a V8 and the base Continental Flying Spur which is a V12 starts at just under $180,000, clearly this car will most likely be $150,000 or less.

I have no idea where you got $200,000 to $300,000 from.

        @ Pengwin
I don't see that happening unless it is based on the Brooklands architecture. If it is a non-turbo 4.0 a price of 150k to 160k makes sense.

the only way it can be called a 4-door coupe is if the rear doors are not independent of the front doors, like the mazda rx8! it does not matter who you design the roofline..if the rear doors are independent of the front, then it is a sedan! im so sick of everyone saying 4-door coupe...it is just a sedan with crappy rear headroom!
