It would appear that the timing for the 2012 Honda Civic's unveiling has reached the "any day now" point. Car magazine's Middle East outpost caught the latest version of the popular econo-sedan undergoing desert testing, basically devoid of camouflage. If you were waiting with bated breath for an extraordinarily new and different-looking Civic, stop reading. The 2010 car falls solidly into the "extensive refresh" category rather than a full redesign.
As you can see in the spy video, the front and rear fascias are updated; a new grille and bumper appear up front, while out back, all-new taillamps will be the most distinguishing visual element on the 2012 car. The overall profile of the Honda Civic sedan is clearly a carryover, however.

Likewise, the interior has been mildly tweaked with a new steering wheel and some updated trim panels, but it's basically window dressing over the passenger cabin recent Civic owners are familiar with. (The bi-level instrumentation is there, and the radio, HVAC controls, and air vents are all in the same locations as the current car.)

What powertrain changes (if any) Honda has in store still remain a mystery. Follow the jump for a video of the new Civic out in the wild, and head to Car Middle East for a complete photo gallery of spy pics. Thanks to all who sent tips.

LMAO, that rear end looks like it was copied straight off of a Saturn Ion. Yuck. They could have done so many things with that car, and all they could come up with was...this???

I'll say it again: That is the next Honda City.

I'm about ready to call shenanigans...

I think only way to survive is to adopt more Korean designers....
      European civic(a five-door hatchback),Camaro,Malibu,Murano,Benz CLS,SLS amg etc.(forgot so could'nt list all...)
I like how Korean designers put more excitement into cars...
but this car....hmm blend even with LED at the back...
I really don't like blend cars....
not that design has to have crazy lines....but I think simple line could still have impacts in the design.

      Looks disappointing.

Kinda makes you wonder if Honda even wants to be a leader in this segment anymore...

I hope for Honda's sake this is not the new Civic. If it is then after the very underwhelming and disappointing CR-Zzzzz( a car which I still believe reflects very questionable decision making on Honda's part), it will truly reinforce my belieft that Honda has lost its way and the future is indeed very dim and Honda truly is on the demise. Honda is just falling farther and farther behind its competition. as it has not really introduce any new technology in its engines or transmissions and it still is using its dated mild hybrid systems. The best Honda can do is it just recently introduced a 6 speed auto and it is limited to only one or two models it isn't even a dual clutch design (other companies have 6, 7, 8 speed transmissions-- even Ford has a dual clutch design in its econobox fiesta). I've only bought and recommended Honda's for many, many years, but if Honda doesn't reverse this downward spiral soon, I think my next car will be a Hyundai or a Kia. By all accounts the new Elantra will be the bench mark and not only will it outperform the civic but its styling is so much better than this very underwhelming design (but then I guess I shouldn't be surprised as Honda/Acura really must have some the worse design studios as most of the new products are either ugly (ie. the Acura power plenum grill is universally despised by myself and many others and I'm surprised Acura persists in continuing this or too underwhelming.

And yet another let down by Honda. I have been a Honda person for over a decade buying a Pilot, CBR1000RR and CBR600F4i. I was considering buying another Honda to take the place of my Grand Prix but everything they are putting out cars and motorcycles are just average. Nothing catches my eye. I will probably be switching to Hyundai and Kawasaki unless a miracle happens and they finnaly put out some thing worth buying.

I think the American car companies are the only ones with balls anymore. Mazda will be back in the game when they lose the smiley face though.

I don't really get what happened to Honda, they've definitely fallen since 5 years ago when I was actually cross-shopping some of their options. Now they're alongside toyota in the no chance in hell category.

With bold choices like the Fiesta, 2012 Focus, 2011 Charger, Sonata, Forte, upcoming Veloster, and all the new American muscle cars, I can't think of any good reason to buy Japanese (except for Mazda like I said). You know you've sunk into the deepest depths of blandness with the Chinese are coming out with more forward looking original vehicles than you.

Ok I contradicted myself; the Americans and the Koreans are the only ones with balls.

I think the new Jetta proves that the Europeans have lost theirs as well.

Not a fan of sedans. Honda coupes always look better than the sedans imo.

        @gadvrules9000
new focus, new cruze, new jetta, and the upcoming elantra > civic

I hope this isn't Honda's continued effort towards irrelevancy, and just a quick makeover before the real thing arrives

I gotta agree. The 5 door Focus with My Ford Touch has all the right elements for me. As said in the comments, this is too much like a Sentra.
