Jamie Hyneman, Adam Savage, Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara represent the on-screen fivesome of the Discovery Channel's top-ranked show, MythBusters. The show focuses on the simple mission of:
Uncovering the truth behind popular myths and legends by mixing scientific method with gleeful curiosity and old-fashioned ingenuity that often includes custom-built test rigs, explosions and flying crash test dummies. At the end of each episode, myths are rated "busted," "plausible" or "confirmed."
If you've never seen MythBusters before, then you don't know what you're missing out on. If you have watched it, then you probably share our belief that the fivesome holds one of the most desirable "jobs" around. Myth busting is often messy, but the team of Jamie, Adam, Tory, Kari and Grant can now haul their on-set goods around in classy, clean style thanks to the addition of a diesel-powered Freightliner M2 106 equipped with selective catalyst reduction emission technology and Eaton's parallel hybrid-electric drive system. This setup reduces emissions while boosting fuel economy by up to 40 percent.

Myth: trucks are dirty and inefficient. Fact: The Freightliner M2 106 Hybrid is not. Myth "busted"! Hit the jump for more on the MythBuster's "confirmed" delivery of a Freightliner hybrid truck.

PRESS RELEASE

MythBusters Gear Up With an Eco-Friendly Freightliner Hybrid Electric Truck

Cutting-Edge Technology: "Confirmed"

PORTLAND, Ore. – Freightliner Trucks delivered a 2010 Freightliner Business Class® M2 106 Hybrid dry van truck to Discovery Channel's MythBusters: Jamie Hyneman, Adam Savage, Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara. The San Francisco-based show is one of Discovery Channel's highest-ranked programs, and the Freightliner vehicle will haul the show's equipment to support the production of new episodes.

The EPA 2010 compliant, diesel powered Freightliner M2 106 Hybrid is equipped with selective catalytic reduction emissions technology and an Eaton parallel hybrid-electric drive unit. This combination offers remarkably low exhaust emissions while delivering a 25 percent to 40 percent improvement in fuel economy.

The MythBusters uncover the truth behind popular myths and legends by mixing scientific method with gleeful curiosity and old-fashioned ingenuity that often includes custom-built test rigs, explosions and flying crash test dummies. At the end of each episode, myths are rated "busted," "plausible" or "confirmed."

"The Freightliner Business Class M2 106 Hybrid is a versatile truck renowned for great maneuverability, reliability, efficiency and driver comfort," said David Hames, general manager, marketing and strategy for Daimler Trucks North America. "While myth-busting may be a messy and challenging task, delivering the goods on-set won't be a problem for the Freightliner Business Class M2."

"We've enjoyed a great working relationship with the team at Freightliner Trucks for many years," said Jamie Hyneman, host of MythBusters. "They've provided vehicles for truck-related myths and have offered use of their proving grounds in Madras, Ore., whenever we need it. That's remarkable because we have a hard time getting anyone who's seen the show to loan us anything!"

The 20-ft. van body was built and installed at Supreme Corporation's Moreno Valley, Calif., facility and includes a 16-ft. retractable awning, exterior lighting and a hydraulic tail gate lift manufactured by Maxon Lifts of Santa Fe Springs, Calif. The truck chassis will also feature an Eaton 5 kW auxiliary power generator that will energize accessories like power tools and a refrigerator from the hybrid battery, reducing truck idle time.

"This truck is perfectly suited to support our day-to-day operations and off-site production," said Dan Tapster, executive producer of MythBusters. "We are delighted that Eaton Hybrid Power, Supreme Truck Bodies and Maxon Lifts collaborated with Freightliner Trucks to pull this together."

Freightliner Trucks is a division of Daimler Trucks North America LLC, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, and is the leading heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America. Daimler Trucks North America produces and markets Class 4-8 trucks and is a Daimlercompany, the world's leading commercial vehicle manufacturer.
