Sebastien Loeb has effectively secured his seventh World Rally Championship title, netting his 60th carrier win by taking the Rally de France in the process. With a total of 226 championship points under his belt and two rallies left in the schedule, there's simply no way for any of the other competitors to get within arm's reach of the WRC gold. The Citroën team managed to pull off a one-two win at the French rally with Loeb's teammate Dani Sordo walking away with the second fastest time. Sordo is currently fifth in the point standings.

Rounding out the podium in France was Peter Solberg, who currently occupies fourth place in points. Gymkhana guru Ken Block managed a respectable 12th place finish, though that result isn't enough to gain the American racer any points. Currently Block is sitting at the bottom of the Championship rankings with zero points to his name.

With both the Spanish and British rallies left on the schedule, all eyes will be on who will take the bronze in this year's WRC. With Jari-Matti Latvala currently holding onto 144 points in third place and Peter Solberg trailing by just 11 points in fourth, the bottom rung of the podium could easily go either way. Thanks for the tips, Joe and Novac!

Not only is Seb a better driver than Schu, he's also a much nicer guy.

It has gotten to the point that I actually cheer when Loeb crashes just so I can see an actual battle for first instead of for second...

I've been a huge fan of Seb's since the beginning, but I think it's time for a new challenge.
Seriously- the guy is a freaking machine. It's an incredible achievement to be the top driver in the world in any category, and normally I laugh when champions try to switch for a new challenge... but Loeb is so good I almost think he could dominate at anything he does...

So that would make him the Michael Schumacher of WRC? :P

More like the Jimmie Johnson of the WRC.

        That's not a compliment, btw.

How does this guy stay motivated?

      No surprises there.

To ken block...just stick to TV ad..u r complete rubbish in true racing world...u can only shine/show-off under a set of camera ..is that worth for FORD to sign him in WRC?...only effect to the newbie perhaps

I feel bad for Mikko. Having watched him come very close to taking the championship previously, I really thought he would go all the way this year. Fate however seems to have intervened, and Petter, Dani, and Jari-Matti aren't exactly slowpokes either.

Who knew back in the day that a former gymnast would come to dominate the WRC, especially with the other talented drivers in the mix?

HOW ABOUT A SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE OF US WHO WATCH THIS ON HD THEATER?

This^2. even better, don't put it in the title for those of us who RSS syndicate your schlock on iGoogle.

not that this was really a surprise though. i think he slacked in Japan on purpose so he could "win" at "home" in France.

Why bother? Everybody knows Loeb is going to be champ every frigging year for the rest of his career.

      he is such a bad-ass
I am so sick of not being able to easily watch this sport on TV in the US.
last I checked I had to pay like $80 to subscribe on the WRC Website, or something like that, and then I could only watch it on my computer.

Anybody out there know how to watch this sport on tv? I have DirectTV.....
      sheesh!

If you have the HD package, you can watch the WRC on HDTheater.

Numerous youtube channels do recaps of each day...that, combined with the onboards and various other videos on WRC.com, as well as listening to the live radio broadcast on WRC.com gives me most of what I need/want to keep up with it.

I don't understand how one person can be so consistently fast and run so clean on every single stage in the WRC. It's absolute insanity.

Also, congrats to Ken Block for finishing his first rally without any major offs or problems! That must be a huge confidence booster for the rest of the season leading into 2011. Can't wait to see what he can do next season!
