2011 Audi R8 GT – Click above for high-res image gallery

In terms of supercar hotness, the Audi R8 is indeed something special. And though we have our disagreements about Audi's R-Tronic manu-matic transmission, the R8 never ceases to impress us with its purely awesome style and dynamics.

For this year's Paris Motor Show, Audi brought out its limited-production R8 GT. Held to only 333 units retailing for €193,000 (about $256,000 USD), the R8 GT features a more powerful version of the automaker's 5.2-liter V10. In addition to the boost in horsepower (560, up from 525), this hotter R8 uses carbon fiber in place of aluminum on some of the body panels. This, in addition to thinner windshield glass and polycarbonate rear windows, drops the R8 V10's weight by 220 pounds. Slim and slender, fast and furious.

Have a look at the R8 GT for yourself in the high-res gallery of live shots below.

      Lighter is righter.

p.s. I didn't think "righter" was a real word....but Autoblog spell check isn't picking it up. So I guess I was wronger.

Were it not for the lambo concept and a raft of lighter lotus cars, i'd be a lot more stoked for this. Still.. great job audi.

This is so much better looking than that mess of a lambo. The lambo has materials tech, and lightness on it's side, true, but it looks like a mess. I like lamborghinis, but they are kind of something I would greatly enjoy experiencing in their own right, but not enough of my taste to own one over various other cars.

This car looks extra fantastic. Maybe not as utterly smooth as the C-X75 concept, or quite as sharp as the Lotuses...

But this car is production. VERY SMALL production, but it isn't going to get further watered down, as it is set as-is, nor is it a one-off imagination device.

Cost no object, the R8 GT would be on the list to consider.

      Amazing. Truly sex on wheels.

        My bed has wheels...
That'd be either really difficult or uncomfortable.

I really hope this version will be RWD. I'm not really optomistic though.
i think RWD would be agains Audi's beliefs. it's always quattro for their performance cars, after all , quattro GmBH is their performance division.

Too bad about that "automatic transmission" nonsense.
Maybe if you can afford one, you can afford to have it swapped to a 6-speed manual... from a regular 5.2.

Or a 5.2-6MT dressed up a bit like this. :D
        • 4 Years Ago
They just mentioned having a general issue with the R-Tronic gearbox, which is from Lamborghini, an a clutch based transaxle, under computer control, IIRC.

The regular R8 4.2 and 5.2 are available with manual 6-speed gearboxes, as well, and are reportedly much better.

The article doesn't state that the R8 GT is limited to the manu-matic gearbox, so I wouldn't write off the possibility of them being 6MT, unless it is stated somewhere otherwise that they are not.

it's not auto, it's akin to smg. ergo... it's worse.

Please stop calling a car that weighs 3,360 lbs "lightweight".

      (Lotus owner)

      nice
Doesn't 220 lbs. seem pretty severe for just replacing some body panels and glass? Plus, those panels were already aluminum, not steel.

That amount of weight savings seems more likely from re-skinning the entire car in carbon fiber, or something like that.

"Paris 2010: 2011 Audi R8 GT is powerful, lightweight gorgeousness"

..... And looks identical to the normal V10 R8 but with a little spoiler.
