Lotus Eterne concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

When we think of Lotus, the words "hybrid" and "sedan" aren't exactly the first words that come to mind. Now, though, Lotus is changing all that with the introduction of its Eterne concept, a four-door sedan with an optional hybrid powertrain. This may be a big step in a different direction for Lotus, but it's nothing new. The Eterne takes the same shape as the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide and Audi A7 Sportback.

Like the new Esprit concept, the Eterne is powered by a 620-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8 sourced from Toyota. The optional hybrid drivetrain uses a Formula 1-style KERS energy recuperation system, and the Lotus sedan will be available in both rear- and all-wheel drive. Of course, this is still a Lotus, so good performance numbers are an absolute must, and we're told that the Eterne will run to 60 miles per hour in just 4.0 seconds on its way to a top speed of 196 mph.

While merely a concept at this point, Lotus says that the Eterne is slated for production in 2015 and that the sedan will cost around $190,000. We'll have live photos direct from the Paris Motor Show floor soon, so stay tuned.

Or maybe Lotus should get with Mazda or Mitsubishi....and really show its a$$...design-wise. I can see the Eterne replacing the Mazdaspeed6 or becoming a companion model to the Lancer Evo line. ...just thinking aloud....

Lotus needs to just produce all these cars on their concept list...they'd make a very compelling brand.

Looks alittle like the Tesla 4dr hybrid. Matter of Fact Telsa had a good relation with Lotus. And Lotus had a good relation with Toyota. And Toyota has a good relation with Tesla now...

Whoa. Lotus' Paris lineup is a knockout. These concepts are gorgeous. Let's hope they find their way into production.

We'll miss you, Lotus. A lot.

for all those who are saying "bye bye Lotus" because this is a sedan, see Lotus Carlton

Porsche take note, this is how you do the rear end of a 4 door supercar...
      This reminds me of Porsche.

Having to stray from your roots so you can stay alive.

The Lotus Elite and now the Eterne are going to hopefully give them money to build better Esprits and Elises(?), however if they start to make an SUV like the Cayenne all hell will break loose...

This is the prettiest of the bunch, surprisingly.

they've already debuted the new elise and elan.
Scratch that the new Elise is pretty light 2,409 is great, and with 320 hp.... however something is lacking.. im not sure what but this, the elise and even the esprit seem very un-Lotus like

Looks like it's on the same platform as the Tesla S

      ...compelling MAINSTREAM auto brand....

I know they have a small lineup now, but I like all of their regular/hybid/partnership concepts. They could really do a lot of good designs for a lot of different automakers.
They'll never partner with Mitsu or Mazda. They want reliable powertrains after the 70k mark. Thats why they went with Toyota.
They take a Toyota short block and put Lotus guts in it and Lotus heads on it. I bet you the Espirit would run cirles around the LF-A for nearly half the price. The Elan would probably give any GT-R owner the sweats (For the $20k surcharge, it better).

I'm telling you now... Lotus is going to be a force to be reckoned with when this line rolls out.
For all those complaining about the "sameness" of all their models? What about BMW?

Let's not forget that all the Bimmers look the same and UGLY. The only car which isn't strikingly gorgeous from Lotus is the new Elise concept.

When I saw this it reminded me of the 1990's Buick Riviera.

Honestly, lotus wins the award for most staggering and stunning changes to an automaker's lineup. FOUR new concepts, All heading to production in 2015 and all staying true to their roots? 300lbs lighter than the 612 and rapide, 1200-1500lbs lighter than the conti gt, and as quick as all of them? amazing. What a wonderful extension of adding lightness to damn near every class of sports/supercar.
The current Elise is lighter, less powerful or not. How is this "staying true to their roots"? Seems like everyone one is adding weight and upping the power to balance out.

        We'll def miss you, Lotus.

ever design a car? ever design a car to new safety standards while balancing the cost of four brand new models as a small car maker. people are being unreasonable, yourself included.

if anyone, ANYONE, released a 300hp 2400lb mid engined car EVERYONE would be stoked.

Lotus is building cars in 2010, and designing cars for 2015, cars which will allow them to continue to provide the best driving dynamics in their respective classes while meeting 2015 emissions and crash standards. They've done a fine job. Time for you to realize that and be a bit more realistic about the car industry then you are. You're way to young to nostalgically and curmudgeonly hold on to something that's beyond a fantasy.

Plus the interior is right up your alley.

Very sweet Lotus! No K(omplexity)ERS for me, thanks. I'll take the gas only powertrain.

        Cutting and pasting comments now?

You said the identical (moronic) thing on the Elise post too.
Its sad that they will never produce this car! It would totally kick the Porsche Panamera's ass! This looks much better...
