Jet-Powered Scooter vs. Lamborghini Gallardo – Click above to watch video after the jump

We love ourselves a good drag race, but sometimes two-equally matched vehicles going head-to-head down a straight gets a bit boring. This is where ingenuity, bravery and a lack of self-preservation come in handy. Apparently, the Swedish have figured out a sure-fire way to spice up your standard 1,320-foot race. Take one Peugeot scooter (the video incorrectly calls it a Vespa), add a small jet-engine to the back and let Charlie Pace from Lost a rider line up next to a Lamborghini Gallardo.

It's a jet-powered David versus an Italian Goliath. More importantly, it's the type of racing we can wholeheartedly get behind... and you can watch the video for yourself after the jump. Anybody want to guess the winner? Thanks for the tip, Per Eriksson!

Would have thought the scooter would be slower at the start, but fly past the Lambo later, because jet engines are more about having a higher amount of potential power and reaching higher speeds rather than straight off the line performance, as do; piston engines, but wow this was amazing.

      150kph is
93mph so exactly what you saw -
      the Lmaobo hit 200kph
or 124 mph which is about eactly what you'd expect in the 1/4 mile...

again - any of you make a scooter go that fast?
      didn't think so

That was MADNESS, hahahhahaaha, great one.

It appears to be a homemade turbine based on a regular turbocharger making this all the more awesome
      • 4 Years Ago
Am I the only one who thinks a turbine engine that small is incapable of providing that kind of thrust? I'd say the scooter was turbine assisted because it clearly left the line under engine power. Also, I'd guestimate that both vehicles were only traveling 60-70mph at the end of the "run." A load of BS if you ask me.

Yeah I have to call BS as well. If it really had enough thrust to get the scooter to out-launch the Lambo then it would have torn that spit and chewing gum mounting scheme all to hell.

Thanx guys, my bad, this is what happens if it's too late in night and you're trying to blend ... we're all looking for... :-)

wow but the look of the lambo... i don't see this car driving polish street :)
Imagine if this was a race with a Murcielago instead of a Gallardo like the beginning of the video suggested.
Ok, a fast Gallardo will do the 1/4 mile in about 11.2 seconds (R&T tested LP560-4).

My bone stock Kawasaki is faster in the 1/4 mile. The Gallardo will walk away from it as the speeds get higher, no doubt, but comparing a bike to a car, even with a tiny jet assist, is just silly.

I like how the jet on the Vespa is sipping fuel from a water bottle and there's a scared-looking guy with a fire extinguisher standing by...
I can do faster with a bottle of sprite and Mentos...LOL
