Camaro5 is an internet forum that focuses on one specific offering from General Motors, namely the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro. Their hearts (and ours) are a-flutter with images they just got hold of. Sitting under the hood of a not-very-well camouflaged 2012 Camaro Z28 lies the LSA engine in all its supercharged glory. We know it will come packing a 6.2-liter under the hood, now we know which one.
For those not familiar with it, the LSA was originally shoehorned under the hood of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. It's currently rated at 556 horsepower and 551 pound-feet of torque in that application. We have no clue what it will produce under the hood of the Z28, but it will most certainly be a hearty jump over the 425 hp produced in the Camaro SS.

Head over to the Camaro5.com forums to see more detail and gander at some high-res photos. A twirl o' the bow-tie to Jason!

You guys crack me up. You act like the only thing Chevy is doing to the z28 is giving it the lsa. Don't you think that it will get some suspension upgrades and other performance enhancements? But don't worry I'm sure the blogs already have your mind made up

Mark my words the reviews will go like this - lookout stang there is a new kid in town. Bla bla bla this is what the camaro is supposed to be like. Yada Yada Yada the general has stepped up again with another great performance car

The SS vs Z/28 argument for the top Camaro has been going on for the past two years.

I wish they would have used ZL1 for it instead but if GM releases an LS9 version then it will probably get that moniker. *wink wink*

Well this is some good non-hybrid news...
Why the LSA? The car's heavy enough already! Give it a diet and ls7.... Perfect!!! I'm the biggest Camaro fanboi there is but I just don't agree with the LSA!

        @chrome:
Speaking as a die-hard Mustang fan, and a soon to be owner of a brand new 2011 V6, there's no way Ford would have upped their game on this car without the Camaro coming in to embarras the 'stang.

I'll always cheer in the GT500's corner, but we don't even know what the Z28 is bringing to the table yet. I'm just guessing here, but I suspect Ford might have to up the ante again. That's a good thing; competition rocks.

        Keyword: might.

All depends on what Chevy does. All the same, for my money, I'd bet on the Mustang any day of the week. I still think the 2010's are a better all-around deal than the Camaro. Now with the 2011's, it's a real no-brainer.

And I put my money where my mouth is when I ordered mine last month. :)
        It'll still be a Camaro.

The Mustang will continue to kill it.

It's just how things work here on Earth.
Well I would guess the Z28 is bringing more weight to the table unless Chevrolet finally realized that the car needed to go on a diet. Don't expect the GT500 to go belly up and not provide a run for its money, seeing as the 2011 GT500 was 9 seconds quicker on VIR than the 2010 GT500. The difference between these Mustangs was 10 horsepower and 100 pounds of weight, if the Camaro can't match the Mustangs new weight I can't see it holding up on a track.

2:58.48 on VIR which is faster than the 2:59.5 it took for a Audi R8 5.2 FSI V10.

I'm starting to think the SS with an LS3 and Kenne Bell SC (+other mods) may have more potential than the heavier LSA equipped z28.

Not so sure the Z/28 will come with an LSA. Hoping for the rumored LS8. 475 to 500 hp is more than plenty.....provided the Camaro goes on a diet.
GM already has and LSA coupe in production that schools the GT500.

Looks like they are going to have two now.

Spoken like a true fan-boy. As I recall, that comparo was written off as a joke due to the transmission in the Caddy being an automatic, no?

My pants are definitely shorter than they were before I read this.
Hey, GM, why you keep spending the tax money on that car? Are you ever going to produce something decent looking, powerful sedan with a reasonable price too, you know, for grown up men who are not yet post climax? Ever going to replace G8 that that idiot Henderson bitch had killed before he was kicked out?
      so low brow it's painful.
how can you share taste in cars with prison inmates and not stop to wonder..
you mean like Martin Eberhard or Elon Musk. or Leonardo DiCaprio. or George Clooney. or Tom Hanks.

        Hahah!

        Dan simply declares himself intelligent?

Well then I declare myself Lord of All money, sportscars and supermodels! Ta-da!

Saying it doesn't make it so, prison-birch.

        hehe, the finest logic.
seeing as it will happen and it will be great, why not take a few minutes to learn a bit more about it

if you only get to know it you'll never want to go back to a primtive stang. same as you wouldn't want a steam car today

How can you share a taste in cars with couch potatoes and middle aged virgins without wondering?
        @Dan Hendrickson

        "hehe, the finest logic."

Thanks, but I could not have done it without you. You know, when you called those of us who like Camaros prison inmates?

What is going to happen Dan? You show us a guy in an electric go-cart showing up super cars as proof we will all be driving electric cars? Not if we don't want to!! I love to break it to you but this is a free country.
Dan, I don't care what Leo Defagio or George Looney drive!! I drive what I want, and yes I am pretty sure they would be middle aged virgins if they weren't actors!!

I know that because I am a genius!! lmao!!
Stang, you mean like free to keep slaves? free to rape and murder?
you might want to insist on that but people of sounder mind will eventually force your hand if you insist on being ignorant and obtuse.
yes you will all drive electric cars. peak oil and global warming will ensure it.
if you weren't so ignorant you might know that the current economic downturn is enforced by demand of oil overtaking supply and that it will only get worse as long as we depend on oil. increasing demand, dropping supply. you're already running one war to steal oil. mass murder for oil. it's a beautiful thing that you can all be proud off.
so yes my ignorant obtuse friend, you most certainly will drive electric cars and they will be vastly superior to primitive ICE cars.

All the power in the world doesn't change the fact it's a Camaro for me, I just can't fall in love with the looks no matter how hard I try. Naturally looks are subjective so it's merely my opinion. I'd take a GT500 any day over this myself. Hopefully this will do well for them though and they continue to make vehicles people actually want for a change.
I get your point, the Camaro's looks can be polarizing.

But, maybe you should wait to see what the complete Z/28 looks like before you criticize what it looks like.

Either way the GT500 or Z/28 each have/will have more performance than I'd even need so the N/A engined versions would be the route I'd take.
The camaro looks waaaaayyyy better than the mustang! Even stang owners say so! But the mustang is the better car....
I still don't see the Z/28 as the competitor to the GT500. In my book a Z/28 is a small, high revving, high compression engine with great track capabilities( excellent breaking, tight suspension and well balanced) . The new 302 Boss is more the Z/28 competition. It doesn't make sense that a Z/28 has more power than a Corvette Z06.
The Camaro is also a lot heavier than the Corvette Z06 and likely would not handle as well either.

As for the competition, there is no doubt in my mind that GM has its sights set on the Shelby GT-500 with the Z28. The two will likely put up similar numbers and fall under the same price range.

The fact that the Z28 is geared toward the same target market as the GT-500 makes them instant rivals. It's top Mustang vs. top Camaro.
