2012 Ford Focus prototype out on the track – Click above to watch the video after the jump

We can't divulge the details about the production-spec 2012 Ford Focus just yet (you'll have to wait for next week's Paris Motor Show coverage), but when it comes to what Ford's new global C-car will be like to drive, this video should explain a lot.

It's no secret that the new Focus was heavily tuned by Ford's European team, meaning both the hatch and sedan should prove to be pretty engaging steers – just like their Fiesta siblings. In this video, we see a nearly completed prototype running around Ford's handling course, and judging by the sights and sounds from this two-minute clip, we're pretty eager to get our turn behind the wheel.

If the standard-spec Focus looks this good, imagine what FoMoCo has in store for the hotted-up ST. Follow the jump to watch the video of the Blue Oval small car doing some test laps. Thanks for the tip, Yaroukh!

Can't wait to see exact performance stats - I'd also like to know it's MPG and see how far off it is from the Fiesta's.

I have to say that I'd love to see the ST trim have an available AWD system. If they can make that happen I am a Ford convert...but it doesn't seem that it would have enough mass-market appeal to make it a feasible decision.

It's an updated Mazda 3. How bad could that be? My wife drives a 3 hatch. If she had been paying more attention, and hadn't torn up the right front suspension twice, I'd have no service records except for tires and oil changes in 45k miles. My only gripe is the sudden throttle tipin which makes smooth driving a trial.

I like everything about the 2012 focus minus the unpainted lower plastic, the too-wide front lower grille, and the sony stereos on the higher end models. Ford has had me long enough tho, and after my 2010 f150 is paid off I am going elsewhere for a while. I am thinking a Jeep. When Ford starts making them like I like, and have better corporate customer service, then maybe I will come back. Until then, I think I am done with Ford.

"It's no secret that the new Focus was heavily tuned by Ford's European team" -Ablog

Not to mention the design, chassis development, engineering, etc etc etc. Despite having a simultaneous global launch, this remains an F of E product.

A considerable amount of the engine design and engineering is being done in Dearborn.

"A considerable amount of the engine design and engineering is being done in Dearborn."

Indeed - the 2.0 litre petrol engine which will be used for the North American market. Elsewhere, the car will get the usual raft of petrol and diesel engines developed by Ford of Europe as was the case with previous models. Whatsmore, unlike the first-generation 1998 Focus, the North American model is being developed simultaneously, hence the Dearborn input.

Is it me, or has Ford started making some really good looking cars? I know I might be offending some people, but I think they sure had lost their touch in the 80's and 90's.
Nope, not just you. Most of their current lineup looks good to me and if the Focus ST has most of what I'm looking for then it'll be my next car. Bye bye GTI.

      Wow.

The hype preceding the launch of this new Focus has been ongoing for so long that the car itself is beginning to look old and the design dated to me. This happens with all new vehicles with designs that, although fresh, are just run-of-the-mill. Ho-hum...
