Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 versus Porsche 911 Turbo – Click above to watch video after the jump

One is an American-bred land rocket and the other a Teutonic track terror. They are the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo, and Motor Trend has pitted them head-to-head.

Former Autoblog scribe and known flip-flop aficionado Jonny Lieberman provides the voice work and the words for the buff book's latest supercar comparo, with Herr Lieberman calling the 911 Turbo "the fastest manual transmission car we've ever tested." Acceleration is one thing, but what about sex appeal? According to Jonny, "... both cars were alternately parked in front of my house for two weeks, but I discovered pink lipstick marks only on the Corvette's windshield. That's right, someone kissed the ZR1."

We have video of both cars running side-by-side for 1,320 feet and the winner is not much of a surprise. The overall winner of the comparison? Well, that's another story, and the results may surprise you. Hop the jump to see the clip of these two going head-to-head [*Warning: Autoplay].

Watching the speedo on the ZR1 in that speed run is crazy. It just pulls and pulls. The needle barely slows until past 120 (it seems to slow at 100, but since the marks on the speedo change to 20mph divisions at 100mph, the needle moves half as fast even though the speed is rising at the same rate). And to reach 205 is completely nuts. It looked like it had a little acceleration left too!

Unfortunately, the outcome for the Porsche goes right with my impression of Porsches. One of my ex-bosses had to have the entire bottom end of his Boxster engine replaced because of the IMS bearing. It was only a few years old at the time.

Not really surprising. The 911 always wins short drag races because of the engine being in the back.

both cars are amazing.....but the noise the vette makes is simply intoxicating. Besides; unless your at a racetrack, these numbers will rarely be seen by the owner. I would be in heaven simply rowing the gears and riding that exhaust note any day.

i may love how ridiculously fast the ZR1 is, but when you equip the Turbo with PCCB and PDK the ZR1 stands no chance.
I don't think you're going to pick up 4 seconds with those upgrades. That's almost a 5% difference in lap times!

Wasn't the turbo C&D compared to the ZR1 equipped as such? And it was still slower...
Was also still slower than the GTR if I recall correctly.

Why is this surprising results? srsly.

        I know right!
When I saw the statement that it would be a suprise finish, i automatically thought that there was a new 2011 Porsche that finally could beat the ZR1. When i saw the 0-60 time of the Porsche, I was like OMG that thing is going to disintegrate the ZR1 in the track. Bu,t when the figure 8 showed that the ZR1 had an advantage, along with the G forces being won by the Zr1, I felt the ZR1 should be able to pull off the all important track time win. But, I was still nervous because the intro to this shootout stated that it would be a surprise finish.
I think the only surprise here was either how fast the Porsche was in it's 3.0 second performance to 60, or how badly it lost to the ZR1 in the track.
But, super cudos to that impressive 3.0 times for the Porsche. I remember a time when the only important run was the run to 60mph, my how times have changed.

Any day I would strap myself in the 'Vette.. and hit almost 200 mph on a perfect stretch of road like MT did.
      Thats a car.

Die painfully okay? Prefearbly by getting crushed to death in a
garbage compactor, by getting your face cut to ribbons with a
pocketknife, your head cracked open with a baseball bat, your stomach
sliced open and your entrails spilled out, and your eyeballs ripped
        out of their sockets.

who is this idiot that's hosting the motor trend videos. He is quite possibly the worst choice for a host. Looks like he can't drive the cars to test them cause he'd add so much weight the results would be unrealistic to real owners

If the seats are that bad, just buy a set of RECAROs or something.
