AOL Radio's top car songs - Click above to see the list

UK company HPI recently put out a list of top ten road trip songs as chosen by its customers, with Lynyrd Skynyrd über alles. Now AOL Radio has put together its own list of car songs chosen by listeners, but these are songs about cars, not necessarily the ones you'd choose to play in cars.

Not quite as oddball as the HPI list, it still runs through eras and categories: Tracy Chapman (Fast Car), Foghat (Slow Ride), Metallica (Fuel) and the Clash (Brand New Cadillac) are among the chosen, as well as Gary Numan – who's been popular lately – with Cars. At number one: War's Low Rider. Take a little trip to the link below for the rest of the list and to have a listen.

Not even. The best driving songs are 80's action like Motley Crue, George Thorogood, and Ted Nugent. Low Rider is also required for you Monte Carlo/Impala fixer-uppers. Mullets and paper-towel sized smokes aren't required, or recommended.

it was said earlier that it depends on what you're doing in your car.
      racing through twisties,
      road trip, blasting highways,
      daily driver/commute
      hot date

      there's songs for all occasions.

when I think car songs.... I think

Joe Jackson - running on empty
      Springsteen - born to run

but I like music anytime, except
when I'm really pushing the car
through twisties and then i'll take the sound
of the motor and tires and the wind.

Glastonbury by U2 seems to sum up my Miata nicely.

"You are a pocketful of sunshine
You are the miracle I came here to find
Some things you just can’t control
Sometimes you just have to go"

I can think of a lot of other songs that would fit the bill (like Life in the Fast Lane or Highway to Hell) List seems kind of pointless.

That said, I totally agree with their #1 (Lowrider by War)

I think this is a much more appropriate list of car songs:

Best songs to listen while driving have nothing to do with cars, what a useless list.

No worse than the Top Gear list and subsequent compilation CD...

        completely agree....

      Radar Love, fercryinoutloud.

Anything Jan & Dean ever did. Seriously. 409, Hey Little Cobra, Deadman's Curve... you name it.

ZZ Top's Eliminator. The whole album. Go back a bit deeper, and "She Loves My Automobile" says it well.

Eh, consider the source. I mean, AOL?

How about Turbo Lover by Judas Priest!!!

        I'm your turbo lover
        Tell me there's no other
        I'm your turbo lover
        Better run for cover

We hold each other closer, as we shift to overdrive
And everything goes rushing by, with every nerve alive
We move so fast it seems as though we've taken to the sky
Love machines in harmony, we hear the engines cry.

So this is a list of songs about cars? If so, it's incomplete without Chris Knight's "My Old Cars." Then again, what news organization would acknowledge that country musicians might write about cars at some point? That would add credibility to country music in some way.

      409 and Little GTO

And I will add Ode To My Car.

The T-Rex discography, though Marc Bolan never had a drivers' license.

"Red Barchetta" by Rush. Even the title is a dream car.

"Wind in my hair, shifting and drifting, mechanical music, adrenalin surge!"
