Donto Motors P1 – Click above for high-res image gallery

If you've never heard of Argentina-based Donto Motors before, you're not alone. However, just because this company has remained out of the spotlight doesn't mean they don't have big things in the works – how about a hardcore track day racer designed to compete with the likes of the Ariel Atom and KTM X-Bow? If it ever sees production, Donto Motors' P1 should easily fit right in with these odd/awesome track toys.

The rear-mounted engine is a Volkswagen/Audi-sourced 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four that produces 180 horsepower, and it looks like Donto took visual cues from Audi, as well. The front end's large side vents are reminiscent of a certain supercar that we've grown quite fond of, and the rest of the body work is made up of a split construction, in which it's designed to look as if the body is floating on the FIA-approved chassis. The whole thing weighs just over 1,500 pounds, too, so we imagine that the end result will be a spirited little whip for track day fun.

Donto is hoping to keep the P1 priced around $55,000, and the United States is one of the countries that could receive the lightweight roadster if it goes into production. Emphasis on the word "if." Head over to Diseno-art.com for more.

      Nice.

I like the bodywork. If they could mold the body out of transparent polycarbonate or something, with a semi-transparent color dyed in, or painted on, that would be something new, and cool. Semi-transparent bodywork, not just a computer rendering.

Although, I actually would prefer the SDR WR3 V-storm's drivetrain.

Subaru STI EJ-257 305+hp turbo flat 4 and longitudinal/lateral output RWD transaxle. More power than a 1.8T, lower to the ground, and allows for symmetrical, longer axle/suspension arm lengths and narrower angles for the rear axle. All around better than transverse vertical inline, even if a bit longer.

That drivetrain, with this car's slick bodywork, and Dax Sportscar's camber-compensating suspension design... Sounds fantastic to me.

I'm from argentina, and this automaker is not even known here. I like the car, but the front end is rubbish...they should design something more unique

I would love to see a top gear episode comparing the x-bow, the atom and the Campagna T-Rex, that would be interesting!

I saw a t-rex in traffic today, thought it was kinda unique.

I like that the Atom is getting more competitors, this looks cool but for what it offers is a bit heavier than the Atom and its inline 4 offers less power than the current Atom 3.

The only question I really have about it is how much will it cost to maintain that Audi engine? If I'm only using it for track duty and Summer use getting it serviced might cost a bit more money than maintaining the Atom's Honda engine

They should've chosen a better engine setup imo. I would say the main problem with the Honda engines is availability. Other than that they truly are beautifully built engines.

I've driven the X-Bow on track and although the engine has some nice torque from low rpms, the gearbox is horrible and slow.

I think it's hot. That side shot with the orange roof is amazing. The front end graphics are a little over done but beyond that it's a sweet track star.
