Yes, the Nissan Murano convertible is going to happen, and not only is it coming to the LA Auto Show, but now it has a name: The Murano CrossCabriolet.
Billed as the world's first four-seat, all-wheel drive convertible crossover, the chop-top CUV will only sport two doors and – contrary to the renderings floating around – it won't come with PT Cruiser-style roll hoop.

According to Inside Line, joining the CrossCabriolet at the So. Cal. show this November will be a new Nissan sedan concept that, is said to be "a new dimension to traditional sedan design – a dimension named innovation." Ridiculous hyperbole aside, the four-door concept has been dubbed Ellure, and hopefully the "new dimension" it creates will swallow the CrossCabriolet into oblivion.

I am surprised so many of you are against this. With all of the dulling down of the automobile that has taken place since the 60s, an era when most cars were convertibles, this should come as a warm welcome.

How is it we went from a time where almost everything came in convertible to now where only a handful offer the option, especially one that can comfortably seat five.

Offer everything in a dang convertible then maybe the majority of people would not just see their cars as just boring appliances anymore, like they do now.

This car is too ugly to juke off to.

You know....while their at it why don't they do away with the doors altogether and make you climb in the back through a little hatch that always plays the "Xanadu" soundtrack when open. And instead of seats you could drive standing with a pirate boat like tiller!! Way to go Nissan! Screw making your bread and butter cars compelling! Focus on keeping those sugar bowls of cocaine full in your designer's lounges!

What next, an FJ cruiser convertible? A Volkswagen Eurovan cabriolet? A Nissan Cube soft top?
We all know that convertibles are nice but please, Nissan, don't give a convertible to a two box vehicle. It just doesn't look right.

An FJ convertible would be sweeeeeet!! The old Land Cruisers were drop-tops so it really is not that far fetched.

A convertible could actually give this thing some appeal, beyond the appliance shopper. How much appeal do you think the VW Thing would have today were it not a drop top?

      no... just.... no.

Well, something needed to replace the PT Cruiser B!tch Basket, I guess. I mean, where would all those customers have gone without another badly proportioned, utterly useless, offensively ugly drop-top-with-a-basket-handle on offer?

      Where?!?!?

I did love the convertible mock-up for the new Murano...

It's among some quirky convertibles like the PT Cruiser convertible...

It's an odd one that I actually like... And I love convertibles with roll-bars too... :D

It might just be me, but wouldn't a convertible variant of the AWD Juke be a better choice?
The thing has the potential to be a fun Jeep-like vehicle.

It makes almost no sense to build a convertible soccer mom-mobile
