1969 Ford Boss 302 Team Shelby Trans-Am Mustang - Click above to watch the video after the jump

One of our favorite events from the Monterey car week earlier this month was watching the field of 44 Trans-Am race cars tear it up at the Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The sights and sounds of classic Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers battling it out on the track just like they did in the late '60s and early '70s was something we'll never forget.

The eventual winner of that race was a 1969 Boss 302 Mustang (which is now up for sale) owned and driven by Laguna Seca veteran Bruce Canepa, who has put up a video of his victory. The video shows that the win wasn't easy, as he traded places with a 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A and a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 multiple times. You can watch the entire race in the embedded video after the jump, and be sure to turn up your speakers.

I love the way the cars get loose trying to get the power down out of the corners.

That classic look is timeless. So beautiful and powerful yet not garish.

Great video and sounds. And great that the owners of these cars let them run so the rest of us can see, hear and enjoy them.

But I just have to say that it was maddening to see the line that the Mustang driver was taking coming out of the corkscrew.

As good as modern American V8s are they just can't match the classic rock soundtrack of the American V8s in these cars.

First off let me say that I'm a Ford guy . But it looked to me like the Chevy driver was waving the Mustang to pass . They must have decided before hand who was to win this race .
Sorry , just saying . Still enjoyed the video though . That Stang was winding out past 8 grand !

it doesn't get any better than this! This is the direction that racing should go in this country, If this type of racing would happen today sales of cars would be robust. Unfortunately, the American car manufactures and sponsors don't get it. This type class of racing would boost sales and have a whole new audience to go with it. This is just my opinion, but I have a gut feeling that road racing is coming back in a big way.

So great seeing the classic iron out on the track but, as others have mentioned, they are certainly NOT pushing them too hard. Hell, can't say I would either. Nice to have fun with an old classic like that but, I doubt I'd be beating it up too much either.
