The odd, ugly and weird of Woodward 2010 – Click above for the high-res image gallery

Nestled between the classic and muscle cars at the Woodward Dream Cruise are vehicles that turn heads for very different reasons. At some point in the history of the Dream Cruise, the fleet of quirky cruisers became as big a spectacle as a '32 Ford Coupe or a '57 Chevy. To be honest, we wouldn't have it any other way because these often ludicrous machines bring a smile to our faces during a hard day's work of covering the cruise.

This year, we spotted such fine rides as a Volkswagen Beetle that hinges to open like a Hungry Hungry Hippo (above), an Econoline van with a stripper pole and a late-model Monte Carlo with Lambo doors. That's just three among the dozens of misfits we found trolling the streets of Woodward yesterday. Browse the gallery below for some high-res perspective on how to raise eyebrows while cruising the Woodward strip.

Lots of great vehicles there, I especially like the Ecto-1.

Here I was, going through life thinking there was no way in hell that a PT Cruiser could look uglier than it does coming off the assembly line.

The three pictured in this group proved my way wrong!

That bug with the lattice work body is pretty neat.
So is the Solstice. I do like that.
And roudning out my top three is the Corvette Wagon.

Was the 'Save the Manuals' Ram a manual trans truck?

If not, this movement is a SHAM!!

Oh- the rest of the cars were awesome.

I wonder what the cop was talking to the guys in the golf car about?

What you can't see in the PT pick up pictured is the Viper V10 mounted under the hood!

I would rock that 4X4 Econoline so hard.

Someone please answer me this: Who does those mini-choppers, I think I want one. Or is that guy just 7 ft 7 inches tall, 550 lb?

The Iron Bug is way cool.
Somehow the Hospital White HHR with moon dishes looks 1000% better than any PT.
The XLR looks mean as hell.
The 4x4 El Camino gave me wood.
... And a couple of the hi-boy rods look awesome.
One thing I hate to admit: If you could RWD-ize a Gen 1 stratus and put a simple body kit on it, it'd be a cool car (the pink one got me thinking about that).
