Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

Well, take a look-see at what our intrepid band of spy photographers have just netted. Apparently, the go-fast gurus at AMG have been hard at work on a bevy of new Mercedes-Benz goodies, including the car you see above. Underneath all of that cladding lurks the next-generation SL63 AMG. Even with all of the plastic obscuring its bodywork, it's clear that the engineers intend for the folding hardtop convertible to have some healthy air intakes in the front fascia. Why? We're guessing it has something to do with the manhole-cover sized front brakes on this mule. Take a close look at the front stoppers and you'll see six-pot calipers squeezing on cross-drilled rotors.

That's probably a good thing considering that from what we understand, the SL63 AMG is slated to pack 571 galloping horsepower from a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8. Something tells us we're going to need those galactic brakes to bring this thing to a stop. Word has it that an AMG Speedshift seven-speed gearbox will provide shifting duties, too. Sounds like a tasty piece of heavyweight German engineering to us.

What does Butters know? Not a lot, judging by most comments he has made across this site. Car for the spoilt and stupid? I don't think so. Everyday useable (almost) supercar for the well informed maybe?

I saw two of these driving in downtown Corpus Christi, TX about 6 weeks ago. I couldn't get my cam out quick enough to capture them, though. Now I know what it was that I saw. Thanks, Autoblog.

I'll take my AMG naturally aspirated, thanks. Less powerful or not. (like the previous 6.2L V8)
As if you'd be in the market for one anyway.

        I'll take more power, thanks.
How would you know what I'm in the market for?
        I think I'll stick with my 1999 Ford Taurus -- twin-turbos are LAMEZORS!!!1!!

Who else is with SimpleCar and I??

*Note: Truth be told, I would actually prefer a vehicle with more power instead of less -- so twin-turbos would be wholly acceptable on my next vehicle.*

The best looking car camo I've seen.

Looks like the A-team got a hold of it. It's now ready to bust through thin barn doors and chain link gates.

      Hot stuff.

It's no Ford Falcon, but I kinda like it with the Mad Max camo treatment.

Okay, this is just getting silly now. The "6.3" badge on the side of the 6.2 liter models was a bit of a cheat, but how long are they going to continue with the xx63 AMG name scheme with these new 5.5 liter engines? That's pretty damn far off. I guess it sounds better than SL55T AMG.

And don't give me that heritage crap... I don't care if they built a 6.3 at some point in the past, they AREN'T building them now!

I hope they put that car on a diet.
Wow, that's all I have left to say. Mercedes' exterior designers have really let that brand go.
Exactly. You guys need to ease up a bit, it was merely a joke.
That's your opinion, but considering their sales numbers I'm sure Mercedes' designers know quite a bit more about car design than you do.

And you can barely tell anything from that camo, so I don't know what you're even judging.
I really hope you are being sarcastic...
this comment obviously a bit of dry humor in reference to the hideous camo job. all you haters need grow a sense of humor.
damn... now that's a camouflage. Only thing thats gives it away is the placement of the Benz logo that we all know
      • 5 Years Ago
      Meh!

Another German Overpriced Pig for the spoiled and stupid.
I wonder if this iteration will come with extra cup holders for
the vanilla lattes and evian bottled water?
