2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 – Click above for high-res image gallery

Perhaps the biggest news to come out of this year's Monterey action is the revival of the Mustang Boss 302 for 2012. It's a hardcore version of the already well-liked Mustang GT – the hot new 5.0-liter V8 has been given more power, and performance mods like an upgraded clutch, adjustable suspension, short-throw shifter and improved brakes are all on hand, as is an even more exclusive Laguna Seca model.

We've now spent a good deal of time fawning over the official photos of Ford's new Boss, as well as a set of live photos shot by our own Drew Phillips. However, Ford has just released another smattering of high-res shots showing the track-storming Boss models in all their glory. Scroll through the attached galleries to see the full raft of Boss 302 images, and be sure to wipe the drool from your keyboard when you're done. Hat tip to Antonio!

I think this is better than the GT500.
I'm not usually a fan of those kinds of paint jobs, but my god those are good looking cars.
OMG. That blue one. Will. be. mine.
They look a little over the top for my taste but they definitely have the performance to back most of it up.

I'd rather just have a white one with black wheels. White becuase of the frigin heat lately and black wheels because they look meaner and you dont have to wory about them getting dirty

Would really like to see the traditional Boss 302 in Yellow with black stripes...!! Must Have!!
I don't mind a stripe or two, but the painted roof is just strange and ugly. I hope they sell a toned down version for those with dignity.
That just goes to show how much styling is a matter of personal taste.

I'm sure that I'd love to drive one of those Boss 302s, but I don't like the paint jobs at all. Way too over the top, look-at-me, for my taste.
I guess I should clarify. The ones without the painted wheels I like. The red wheels are a bit over the top
      • 4 Years Ago
I think one's reaction to the styling is pretty much related to age. I'm sure the younger guys love this thing while those of us old enough to lust after the original, when first introduced, now favor the subdued styling variants, like the last "Bullit".

im 15 and i think this car looks waaaay to aftermarket

Agreed with the comments about the too-ostentatious graphics packages.

They didn't do the obvious ones, the ones that actually approximates the originals.
Canary yellow with matte black decals
Raptor bright blue with silver or white decals.

I love the Kona blue color, but the white graphics ruin it. too much. Black graphics would be ok, but they would kind of disappear. Maybe dark silver on Kona Blue...

Not a big fan of pumpkin orange, and the silver with bright tomato red doesn't do well, either.

But then again, I always liked the 69-70 Mach 1s, rather than the race-livery Boss models, aesthetically.

There are too many blocked up light housings on this car. The air dam has two, the grille has two more. Could they not just cast a blank mesh grille?

      side and rear pipes? Really?

The rear still looks weird. Maybe with blacked out tail lights, it might start to look like something... the tail lights need help on all of the '10+ cars. And it kind of needs a new version of the 69-70 sportsroof pedestal wing.

I do like the engine-turned dash, and the blue covers on the engine.

But frankly, I'd rather mod a GT toward a full-dress street Mach 1 re-creation, rather than going for the stripped down racer Boss. Not that I wouldn't want the 440hp and 7500RPM redline in it.

Lack of factory IRS, even on a special edition model, is still putting me off the Mustang, period, though. The roads are just too rough, and getting worse every year.

the painted roof and wheels are too over the top, take that away and it looks much more reasonable.

the stripe style looks straight out of a ricer game (Need for Speed underground anyone?)

The graphics package looks just flat out goofy because of this, but it wouldn't be too hard to alter it.

The black one....seriously? red roof, red wheels, and red grill.....UGLY, if anything at least paint them charcoal grey or titanium.

the grills need to be black on all the bright colors.

The blue one could use less white, and the silver one....again less red (actually, it needs to lose the red altogether and use a darker silver or charcoal metallic), The orange one is about the only one that looks right, and that's because the color black compliments orange, white and red don't do much for the other colors.

I seriously the question who came up with these paint jobs.

Just another mistang or mustang. You would think by now they would have a more modern look. Sorry ford, Z28 will blow this away by looks and performance.
        which magazine tested them......
Right. I bet you think the SS is faster than the GT too... The Z28, *if* they ever decide to make it, will still have horrible visibility, cheapo plastic interior, poor handling and the curb weight of an 18-wheeler. Hell, a new SS can't even beat my '06 GT Vert and all it has is weight reduction and a tune....

Enjoy getting trounced as these things fly by you at 7500rpm.

This is the best Mustang ever! I'll take mine in black.
i agree, a fully loaded boss 302 with the recaros is the perfect mustang
reading down the features list is like reading a racing parts catalog

        i want

As a '70 Dodge Challenger R/T owner it might seem strange, but I've always liked Mustangs, especially the newest ones. Yea, I'd still buy the new Challenger over any Mustang, but I feel the high standard set by Ford only makes for a better Dodge and franlkly. without Mustang there would be no new Challenger.
I made this declaration as to ward off criticism over the fact that I'm not so impressed with this "Boss" Mustang. I particularly don't like the color matching roof. Anyway keep them coming Ford, the muscle car wars(part 2) have just begun.
Just for the record I'm not crazy about the MoPar 10 Challenger either, but more is better than less when it comes to "pony cars".

I wonder if anyone else has noticed how bad the paint looks on all Ford products lately ?
Even the new Lincoln's have that dull looking paint & all of them have "fish-eye" .
Ford is really way behind GM & Chrysler in the paint finish department . It almost appears that Ford has cut back on the clear- coat because it has very little shine or reflectivity .
Look closely at the next new Ford product you see . Check it out for yourself . Compare Fords paint finish with any new Chrysler or GM product .
      Just saying !
You must not be looking at other makes very closely then. Complain about Ford and yet GM, Chrysler, Toyota, Mercedes, BMW, Nissan and pretty much every other manufacturer that uses water-based paint systems for mass production vehicles have as much or more orange-peel finish as the next. You want flawless paint? Not going to happen in the under $100K category.

I'm in love with this car, but I'm confused as to why the didn't offer it in Grabber Blue, with a Shaker hood.

I mean, mine (eventually) will be Grabber Blue with a traditional black sticker pack.
Wow, the orange with black graphics looks all kinds of right, and all the other colors look like Hot Wheels rejects. These are really the best color combinations they could come up with?
Never thought I'd get rid of the 03 Cobra, but damnit I want that LS Boss so bad.
pretty sure there are a couple people on here willing to take your 03 terminator :)
