2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Live Unveiling _ Click above for high-res image gallery

The 2012 Mustang Boss 302 was unveiled this morning at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and we were at the track bright and early to see it take a lap around the famous race course. Due to some early morning rain, the lap actually never happened (we weren't told and were up at the corkscrew for about an hour waiting in the rain), but we managed to make it down to the pits to catch our first glimpse at the car.

We'll spare you going over the details again - you can see the official press release, photos and video from our post this morning – but what we can bring you are the first live photos of the Mustang Boss 302, including a few of the "Laguna Seca" edition. Enjoy!

The blue plastic on the engine looks a little cheap. Either do the cylinder head in blue or don't bother, IMO.

... its called a value cover... motorhead!

I am a Ford fan, a ford owner, and a Mustang lover. But until they either paint the unpainted plastic and fix that hideous rear bumper and poorly aligned trunk/tail lights I won't even consider a Mustang. Keep the LED sequentials tho! Otherwise, I like it. Why is it an automaker can rarely get it all right? The Camaro has a better body but trashy interior and the Mustang now has a nice interior and a cheap-o looking body!

The Boss 302 is a fabulous friggen race car... and your nit picky about some stupid bumber plastic... I'll bet you're a real PITA to live with too.... just STFU!!!

I agree with you on this:

"The Camaro has a better body but trashy interior and the Mustang now has a nice interior and a cheap-o looking body!"

They need to drop the whole black plastic galore, fix the cheap looking grill. I see the Mustang and all I see is the word CHEAP AND LIGHT. Don't know why.

I have to agree with that.

The angles and bevels on the rear end of this car are not great, and actually very chunky looking. It isn't a finish problem, it is a design problem.

The unpainted plastics are a poor choice of finishing, but can be fixed easier than re-designing the aesthetics of the car.

Spend a couple bucks and get a body shop to paint the plastic. The black filler panels in the back look really good too and are relatively cheap as well.

I agree that the unpainted plastic doesn't look great but I can tell you from experience, if you're going to the track with this car (which I hope a great deal of owners will- I know I will), you'd probably prefer to leave it alone, the bottom of my track car is all marred up with tire rubber marks that would take a team of detailers a full day of work to remove. It's not worth it, leaving the bottom alone would make them un-noticable.

Should have been striped like the Old Boss 302

It is - the 1969 car

I guess no word on price, yet?
        $T,OOM,UCH.00 :/

It looks to be a GREAT car, but I'm guessing for most people it may not be worth the extra dough over the GT. At least that's my guess...

I like it, but it really needs the original stripe scheme and rear window louvers which were signature BOSS. The plastic driving light blanks are nasty too.

The seats in the Laguna Seca edition should be standard in all BOSS Mustangs, the standard seats in the GT rival the Corvette's for sheer awfulness.

It's probably going to be pretty close to 50 large when it hits dealers too. A pretty penny for a non-Shelby Mustang.

And there is still the ugly antenna...

I wish I had bought some FORD stock when it was really affordable and they were below the radar in building a long string of great cars. It's amazing the string of cars coming into their offerings and I wonder if there is a 'Lutz' in the house? As an enthusiast it's been a revelation to have a huge domestic company introduce such desireable goodies.

A long time Mustang lover, the 2011 upgrades have put a huge smile on my face.I cannot find/afford another '70 Mach I but these new machines are better in all ways.My only consistent problem is FORD using black wheels on every Mustang I've seen in adds and magazines.Opinions aside, black wheels decrease the 'pop' of a cars design by removing the foundation of good looks. In a world of blk walled tires, there needs to be a contrast with the wheels or it's a big empty void under the fenders. I'm not asking for the false bling of heavy chrome wheels, just more aggresive attractive wheels that shine or have clear design savy.

That front lip is kinda nasty, but the vinyl is well placed. I like it!

I've been lusting after the GT500 (2011) for awhile now and checked it out at the showroom etc. The car is delicious, putting it lightly. However, this car has really got my eyes straying. Cheaper, lighter, more striking colors (exotic sport car colors) and better balanced. The GT500 is also traction limited, I'm seriously curious to see how this performs in relation to that car.

I'm also having a tough time figuring out which one looks better!!!! This should be a serious challenge to the M3 and wouldnt be surprised if it's faster.

That lip looks super aggressive (on the Laguna model).

        Stunning car, well done FoMoCo.

That is the same front end as the GT-CS, is it not?

Don't like the white roof, but then again, I prefer the glass roof...

the white on the hood is a bit much, and didn't a lot of the Boss 302 cars have matte black hoods?

The side stripe is not bad, looks historical.

The wheels are a variant of standard... but I would prefer the wheels that were on the Parnelli Jones Saleen. Something with a bit more width, and more aggressive design.

Probably not lucky enough for this to come with an IRS, though...
