Our understanding of Portuguese ain't all that hot, but luckily we have an astute reader who willingly and graciously translated the important bits of info found on Nissan's Leaf reservation site. Apparently, Nissan is now accepting pre-orders for its Leaf electric vehicle in Portugal and those interested in reserving the Leaf are asked to submit a 300€ refundable deposit ($390 U.S. at the current exchange rate) to claim a place in line.

If that deposit sounds a bit high, then the Leaf's sticker price might shock you. At $45,852 minus the country's $6,505 incentive, the Leaf's out-the-door price of $39,366 is considerably higher than the U.S. price of just $25,280 after incentives. Though Europe is often blessed with some amazing vehicles that fail to make the journey to the U.S., the Leaf's pricing disparity shows us that we have some automotive related advantages as well. Leaf deliveries are set to kick off in Portugal next January. Hat tip to Nuno!
