356 Club's 24th Annual Dana Point Concours – Click above for high-res image gallery

The 356 Club of Southern California held their 24th Annual Dana Point Concours d'Elegance this past Sunday, with nearly 300 examples of Ferry's handiwork taking their place on the grassy bluff overlooking Dana Point Harbour. Although the gloomy skies kept temps bearable, it was a great relief when the sun finally broke through and quashed any chance of rain.

The 356 Club puts on this annual Porsche fest, so it's not surprising that those models made up more than half the field, but they let others play in their sandbox too, so there were plenty of 911s to join the iconic overturned bathtubs, and even a few non-Porsches were allowed into the park. Check out the gallery we put together and you'll see some of our favorites: 904 Prototype, Glockler, Carrera 2, Carrera GT, Speedster, 550 Spyder, Continental, 934, 930, 914, Carrera RS, GT3 RS...the Porsche Diesel tractor, VW Buses, a pair of Enzmanns, and even an MG. It's a pretty amazing show every year, especially for a regional club, attracting several cars from out of state and a couple of celebrities too. Where else can you have those beautiful views, so many amazing cars and enjoy Porsche tractor rides too? Check out the gallery below.

That looked like a great event!
It also amazing how the 356 values have taken off even in a bad economy.

In the early 70's in Detroit you could pick up mildly damaged 356 cabs dirt cheap. We would swap the engines into VW's. If we only knew!

I bumped in to Frank at the show and agree on all counts, for a regional show, it was exceptional. I didn't see the J-man but looking at his MG, it showed clearly how pre-war the MG was, and back in the late forties, how cutting-edge was the 356.

For my short blog on the event, take a look at http://tinyurl.com/25lf4pq. If you want more photos, 250 in all, take a look at http://tinyurl.com/2cnvx6o.

On the first picture see that black back of the Porsche carrera sticking out? I really like that car for some reason. I especially love the front end and how huge those fender curves are coming from lights themselves. Also that mid engine silver Porsche is really cool looking car, I have a small toy of it.

Porsche Club Members, the Santa Barbara Concours d' Elegance (October 30,31, 2010) is a Stratus Media Group (SMDI.ob) event. I like their business model which includes expanding Concours d'Elegance to Napa, Vegas, Beverly Hills, Miami, Chicago, Dallas and Phoenix-Scottsdale to start. They also acquired the U.S. rights to the Mille Miglia Brand and will stage a 1000 mile race along the California coast in the Italian Tradition which began in 1927. Consider driving in the first ever Mille Miglia on U.S. soil, it will be memorable. Also a really cool investment idea.

"Porsche's son, Ferry Porsche, is the eponym for Porsche automobiles, initially based to a large extent on the Volkswagen Beetle design."

The MG is actually a very significat car in that it was "rebuilt" at the Porsche factory incorporating numerous parts from other cars including Porsches, with a twin cam Fiat engine (as I recall but this may be inaccurate). The steering was moved from RHD to LHD. The car was raced in Europe quite successfully. The project was to rebuild the TC the way someone else felt it should have been built!

and they still will not RACE a New Mini Cooper S ....... YouTube Mini S vs. Porsche ....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhYmv0yySaY ........ and ...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UOpWoU0OZU ...... or just go into YouTube and look it up under Mini S vs. Porsche ....... The Mini S kicks the Porsche sideways in every video ..... $25,000 vs. $90,000 for the Porsche ...... for what ? ....... an ego and name with nothing to show for it's value ...... by the way, BMW makes the Mini Cooper S ...... I know how I would spend my money...... it also gets 35-40 mpg and beats is within hundredeths of a second in specs...... it definitely out handles the Porsche...... If you don't believe this check it out for yourself....... and Porsche....... BRING IT ON.
