Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – Click above for high-res image gallery

By now, you've read all about the new Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and its startling run to 267 mph. No matter how you look at it, that's plenty quick for a production car, complete with a full interior, frosty air conditioning and plenty of other creature comforts. Now word has cropped up on the Top Gear web site that everyone's favorite trio of auto TV personalities may have had something to do with the high-speed dash.

The site doesn't say much other than that we should keep our eyes pinned to "all things Top Gear" over the next few weeks for more information. Considering that Captain Slow slung a Veryon all the way up to 253 mph, it's entirely possible that someone from the cast was either in or around the car during its jaunt to the danger zone at the Ehra-Lessien test facility. While you would have thought we would have heard something if Jezza, the Hamster or Captain Slow were at the tiller of the mad machine, you never know. Stay tuned. Thanks for the tip, Dylan!

I'm not a fan of the Veyron's look, but that's the nicest looking one I've seen. Can't go wrong with black and orange.
Not sure about other continents but here in North America black and orange screams Halloween.

@John P: Agreed, this is the best looking Veyron I've seen. As a matter of fact, its the only one I've seen that I thought "wow, that looks good."

The way the colors dissect the car is very flattering to its shape.

maybe the Stig was behind the tiller and drove it right through the 253mph envelope. Love to see that run.
I'd love to see the Stig, in the Veyron super sport, pass Clarkson at top speed in the regular Veyron 235mph. (without telling Clarkson ahead of time)

Hopefully no repeat of his hot lap in the Reliant Robin. ;-)
The Stig can take any car up to 267 Mph.
Maybe Top Gear will do a real top speed run-in handling mode, something that matches reality.
Also see if the new super sport Veyron can do 250 mph in handling mode.

After seeing the first 2 shows of the new TG season they better clam on to any publicity they can get. No budget for super car tests and the same old antics have been beaten to death. I expect it's their last season.

Have to say I agree with KC – the new season definitely feels more restrained and underwhelming – I'm still watching but the balance is swinging too far towards the stunts / caravans etc to keep me interested for much longer.

Perhaps there just haven't been that many genuinely new supercars for them to test since the last season (do we really need to see them test the Gallardo 570 when they've tested the base model, the spyder, the superlegerra etc?). The exciting new cars like the MP4-12C etc are all a little way off. I suppose one notable exception to this is the Ferrari 458 (and the GTO, though that's maybe too recent) which I assume we'll see at some point this season.

First episode of the season Clarkson drove the Bentley Continental Supersports around the track and griped about it. Then the Stig did a round with it. Woo Hoo.

Second episode, same story different cars. A 911 and a Boxster, abeit special editions, but horrifically over priced ones that'll see limited production. Woo Hoo.

Do you remember the beautiful videography and production from previous seasons ?

So far this season we've got an English Motortrend and it's about as interesting.

Like I said, the budget is gone.

No budget for super-car tests? They have an Aston Martin Rapide, Audi R8 V10 Spyder, Porsche Panamera Turbo, and a 911 Turbo Cabriolet coming in the next two episodes.

      Not driving it'd seem.

Well, maybe The Stig is actually Pierre-Henri Raphanel...

Maybe Top Gear USA can get their hands on a hopped up SSC Ultimate Aero?

That's the kind of quid pro quo we need.
@paul34 Actually SSC never made any comparisons to their car to the Veyron. Its people on the internet such as yourself doing that.
The SSC is just gross looking compared to this car. Just being honest.

first thing i thought of when i saw that picture was the family ties between bugatti and porsche :o

As an addendum to my last post:

I think this is finally a good looking car, between the body changes and the combo of the exposed CF weave and orange accents.

I really like how the lines were smoothed out, and how the huge engine scoops were replaced with Naca ducts. Looks great!

Just an AWESOME looking car from any angle.
Awesome. I have always thought the Veyron was an amazing machine. I wasn't a big fan of the paint schemes. It looks a lot better in this picture in a more aggressive "sports car" paint than the original paint schemes, which seem more "luxury." Same with the wheels.

"that's plenty quick for a production car"

Actually it's anything but quick at those speeds.
