Kicherer SLS AMG Black Edition - Click above for high-res image gallery

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is an attractive and classy high-performance aspirational vehicle. Naturally, the tuner parade will seek to make improvements, regardless of necessity. In lieu of a works AMG Black Series, Kicherer has elected to create its own "Black Edition."

The neo-Gullwing is wrapped in matte black foil and gets blacked-out badging and grillework, a lip spoiler, and tweaked rear bumper details. Oh, and let's not forget the black wheels that look as if they came off the rack at your local tire store. Awful. Still, we're sure the valets at the Mall of the Emirates will be ecstatic.

Under the skin, Kircherer re-flashes the Benz's ECU, then adds a new exhaust system and adjustable suspension. Power output is supposedly elevated to a brawny 620 horses. We'll take that extra muscle and leave the tediously predictable appearance mods to others. Kicherer's website doesn't have any pricing info posted yet (as if you care, anyway). It does have techno music, though. Fist pumps all around.

Now, I don't have a problem with aftermarket tuning. In fact, I intend to start tweaking an S2K as soon as I can get hold of one ("body kits" & polished lips will stay miles away from it though). However, if I somehow manage to get an SLS AMG, it'd stay dead stock. How people can take a these exotics and just rice them out is beyond me. I'll admit this is a rather subtle conversion, especially compared to Mansory, but even when the power figures are sky-high, these cars never impress me. It's as if whenever you matte off a car, it suddenly because just another matte car rather than a matte black (exotic of your choice). It loses everything the original car had special and just becomes another "tuner car".

I would never have visited their website.....

....but the techno music comment got me. :)

Save the SLS campaing in 3.....2....

Makes you miss the era when "tuning" meant no guts no glory racing. Not this crap "OMG...look at me! Look what I stuck on my car!" Visual HP shouldnt be applied to cars of this level.

Matte black looks good on this car. And the hp rating isn't bad, either (not that the regular car would lack power). Saw a silver one on the autobahn a week ago, blasting by with definitely >155 mph. Impressive car.

This crap is getting really old. Are there really that many idiots that would buy something this stupid?

matte seems boring now. Give me the ALUBEAM!

Attractive and classy the SLS is not and this tuner only makes it worse.
The running great gear deserves a better looking body and altho I'm not a
convertible afficionado that clumsy hunch roof (to accomodate those
silly doors) if taken away may benefit from cabriolet treatment.

matte colours dont look good on this car...it looks good on cars with longer and bolder lines like a Murcielago or a Carrera GT
