Unidentified Maserati GranTurismo spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

Not quite sure what it is that you're looking at above? Fret not, neither does anyone else... save some engineering types at Maserati, of course. Sure, we can all recognize the shape of the beautiful GranTurismo, but what's with the large rear spoiler? And, even more puzzlingly, why does this GT have twin exhaust outlets poking out high up on the rear fascia in lieu of the normal quad pipes at the corners?

Back in April, Fiat unleashed its five-year business plan, and the Italian automaker promised to "maintain and sustain" its GranTurismo. At the time, we could only assume that meant more variants, but these spy photos only serve to muddy the waters further. What's more, this machine doesn't appear to be the MC Sport shown earlier this year in Geneva. That said, we're just going to assume this is an updated GranTurismo with a slightly hotter powertrain borrowed from corporate partner Ferrari. See for yourself in our high-res image gallery below.

Possibly the best looking modern car IMO.

It's a test mule for the next Viper GTS coupe? OK, it's a stretch but it would explain the tailpipes....maybe.

Nothing looks different about it on the outside but maybe the inside is :

        @Al.O.
Look at the exhaust pipes. I hope they won't keep it in production car.

Front quarter view is strong and sexy but the back end looks rather bland and cheap to me. If I saw that back end without seeing any other part of the car, I wouldn't guess it belonged to anything special.

Hands down the sexiest car on the road today.
Agreed. This car is smokin' hot.
        So very hot.

It just amazes me that this GT coupe is soooo hot, yet Maserati's sedan offering is so horribly ugly looking.

No way is this the sexiest looking car on the market.

The car looks fish-like and ill-proportioned from pretty much any angle.

The front is fish-faced, and snout-y, the roofline changes angles and thickness amorphously, the window graphic is soft, and the tail is nothing special. The Quattroporte has better proportions as a sedan than this has as a coupe.

Sorry, but this has NOTHING on an Aston Martin Vantage or DB9/DBS.

It doesn't compare to it's cousin 8C Competizione, either.

        Absolutely gorgeous.

Sexiest car indeed. All the aggressiveness needed in a sports car and enough femininity (smooth curves, and wide rear hips) to make it pure sex. And who can't fall in love with that burly exhaust note?

        Do want.

One of the very few cars that looks even better with fender ports.

Hey, look! It's a gas-powered coupe version of the Tesla Model S!
So you're saying that Maserati will have grounds to sue Tesla for design infringement?

Gorgeous car, but everytime I see one I'm shocked by how big it is for a coupé.
Funny how personal taste changes over time: I used to love the GranTurismo when it came out. Now, after a few years, not so much. I am totally over it. It's too big and that mouth is just too much. It's so big you might as well go for the 4Porte.

On the other hand, I used to find the (previous generation) 'GranSport' just OK but now I find it way more exciting and better looking.

One ages well, the other one doesn't. Still I hope we soon get an exciting 2-seater Mas'.

        How strange!

I actually find the Gransport to be a bit boring looking, and the Quattroporte to be the same.

Although I'd still get any of them if I could!
