It was said that the Top Gear crew (and Fifth Gear, too) would be back in June, and it looks like they're going to limbo just under the line.

Your reintroduction to the three guys who hang out in the hangar will involve Jeremy exploring the demise of three-wheeled cars behind the wheel of a Reliant Robin, James May tackling that Icelandic volcano, Richard Hammond doing something "dignified" with a Chevrolet Lacetti and the Stig burning ethanol in a Bentley Continental Supersports. The fun gets going on Sunday, June 27, but feel free to cue the cheesy music now...

Top Gear is the #1 show in UK (or was at one time). It should be highly ranked here too. Stop downloading it and start encouraging folks to watch the channel so BBCA continues. Friggin' pirates. If folks demanded it run in full, BBCA has more than enough bandwidth to show it across 1.5 hours. And BBCA is now in HD.

I just don't understand this generation of steal it and expect it to continue. Your free lunch makes it harder for BBCA to have any weight with the cable companies.

"Top Gear is the #1 show in UK (or was at one time)"

I'm not quite sure where you get your facts. TG usually attracts 5-6 million viewers, and the most it has achieved is 8 million. That was one of BBC2's highest ratings. However, many BBC1 and ITV shows exceed this number, with the most popular BBC1 shows regularly topping 15-20 million.

"and since two dozen car guys at my office share it on our server!"

Yes Paul, you're the generation I'm talking about. Silo pirated video at work. Smart, and productive at the same time. BBC not offering it to you on the web and choosing when to air it in the US is their choice. It doesn't give you the right or authority to pirate it and encourage others to do so. I was miffed at autoblog taking that attitude too.

BBC Canada shows them in it's entirety. So your theory on pirating is bogus. BBCA has never shown a full length episode in the 6 years i've watched it on BBCA.

I understand where you are coming from on the Piracy thing, I Pay for BBCAmerica monthy on my Directv bill as it is part of the package, but i will continue to download Top Gear since i prefer to get the episode the same day it plays in the UK and it is in HD, (Directv doesnt have BBCAmerica in HD at the time of this comment), Furthermore I hate commercials and DVR 95% of everything i watch on TV so i do not have to watch the commercials, and I like to watch the ENTIRE episode that BBCAmerica doesn't broadcast. exception to that being the Vietnam special and the Bolivia Special, those were broadcast in their entirety on BBCAmerica. I also like to watch any Top Gear episode i like any time i want since I have every episode on the HDD.

        You're not seeing the reality:

Nobody would pirate Top Gear if they simply showed it or offered it here! As it is, they show heavily edited versions on BBC America nearly a YEAR after they finish running in the UK, when some of the info is outdated altogether.

The BBC only encourages and trains people to pirate by not offering ANY means of legitimately viewing the program. As people like me get used to that (and since two dozen car guys at my office share it on our server!), it devalues the entire program. I'd be more than happy to pay for episodes but since they don't offer it, I simply get it another way.

On BBC America, will they broadcast it the same day, or time as it runs in the UK? I would really love to know.
They will play the new season on BBCAmerica AFTER the Season Finale in the UK, so you will be waiting a while. finalgear.com is the place to go to download the new season for us in the States

You have to give the British credit - they certainly don't try to find good looking people for their shows. Or even mildly passable people.

It's really amazing that the BBC encourages people like us to download their copyrighted material illegally as they do. I mean, rather than offer a simple pay to view option online for Top Gear & F1 (which I'd be happy to honor) they offer nothing at all, leaving a void filled only by illegal downloads.

Despite being well beyond the age of most illegal downloaders, I've grown quite comfortable with it. This has devalued their product, training the market to steal and compromising the viability of a pay-to-view option.

Top Gear? F1? Put your wares online for a couple bucks! I've got cash in hand.
Fully agreed. I wouldn't bother paying some bucks for Top Gear - or they could sell the show to one of the german cabel channels ... UN-DUBBED please!

By all accounts the Lacetti was destroyed when they placed it underneath two 580-foot chimneys at Northfleet in Kent which were demolished. Should be interesting to watch.
