In Europe, Porsche has begun customer deliveries of both the gasoline and diesel V6 versions of the all-new Cayenne SUV. Both new models are equipped with the eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and are about 20 percent more fuel efficient than the outgoing variants.
The 3.6-liter gasoline V6 is rated at a combined 23.8 miles per gallon (U.S.) on the EU test cycle. Its 300 horsepower combines with the Cayenne's significantly reduced mass to accelerate to 60 mph in just 7.8 seconds.
The diesel Cayenne, which may or may not ever come to the American market, continues to use the Volkswagen Group 3.0-liter TDI V6 with 240 hp and offers similar acceleration to the gas engine model thanks to its prodigious torque. The diesel gets an EU combined rating of 31.8 mpg (U.S.). All 2011 Cayennes are also equipped with Auto Start Stop to eliminate most engine idling.
