2010 Saab 9-5 hits the handling track – Click above to watch the video after the jump

For a while there, it seemed like the 2010 Saab 9-5 might have never seen the light of day. Thankfully, that worry has been wiped away, and we've now had our chance to experience the 9-5 firsthand in Gothenburg, Sweden.

In this video, available after the jump, Saab's performance integration manager of vehicle dynamics, Stefan Rundquist, pilots the new sedan around a Swedish handling track, pointing out the different features that make the 9-5 an enjoyable steer (complete with moose test footage!). Maybe it's not the most interesting footage ever released – "We have a high level of front-end grip... Um, we also have a very high level of rear-end grip..." – but it's always nice to see a sporty sedan being put through its paces.

We know we're pretty impressed with now the 2010 9-5 turned out, and we're eager to get another stint behind the wheel, this time in America.

Nicest looking SAAB I've seen in years.

I'm start to warm up to the way the 9-5 looks...

This could be a great car with a more aggressive design to the front end and rear styling. I love the bonnet design--very Sabbish. I hope they see fit to fix that if they are to turn this company around.

I'd love to handle some Swedes.

I have to admit that I'm on the fence with this car in terms of exterior design. Seeing it in person at an auto show I was impressed, and in motion (on this post) helps even more. Maybe once I see it in silver or black will be a deciding factor. A small quirk that's worth pointing out, I like the shape of the side view mirrors, but could do without the two-tone paint job.

The only Swede you want these days is on the Swedish bikini team.

      its an ugly looking car.

It looks very ugly at certain angles.

This vehicle captures the otherness of Saabs very well. Saabs have never been beautiful in my eyes (including mine), but when they really were Saabs, they were always interesting, always a step to the side of conventional, without being ugly. For a 4-door sedan, this new 9-5 fits that mold very well. If my current model didn't give me so much trouble I would put the less expensive Turbo-4 version of this car on my shopping list. But there are too many enticing alternatives for the big-buck version.

        I don't like the TL-ishness of it....

I have to disagree with you. It's one of the best looking Saabs lately.

It's great to see some driving footage from every angle. It shows the car off much better than pictures. I'm not sure if we're looking at the same car, it's certainly a distinctive and good looking design!

Saab ain't really about being pretty. But still, I think it's a pretty car, compared to others in its class anyways.

for such a large car it looked very poised and controlled. fyi, the real saab moose test is where they test the a pillars and windshield by throwing a large moose sized object to make sure everything is strong enough to prevent intrusion.

Wow, I'm really starting to like this car.
But somehow I just don't see how I could cross-shop this with the new 5 series, and still want to drive home in the Saab.
