2010 SMS 460 Mustang – Click above for high-res image gallery

You are looking at one of about 25 2010 SMS 460 Mustangs that Steve Saleen's new company SMS Supercars is building. Why so few? Because production of the new SMS 302 that's based on the 2011 Mustang GT and its sweeeet 5.0-liter V8 has already begun. However, that car's in the future – the SMS 460 is now. Sporting a supercharged V8 good for 470 horsepower and about 460 pound-feet or torque, a fully tweaked suspension and slick-looking body kit, the 2010 SMS 460 has plenty of curb and track appeal. Plus, with less than 25 cars left to purchase (you are looking at an already sold customer car, which is why we couldn't drive it), this is sure to be a Steve Saleen collector's item.

Now, about the upcoming SMS 302; it should be a real humdinger and will be available as either a normally aspirated beast or supercharged monster(s). The "base" version should up the GT's already amazing numbers (412 horsepower, 390 pound-feet of torque) to around 450 hp/430 lb-ft. Again, that's without the aid of forced induction. Of course, there will be a supercharged SMS 302 or two prowling the streets as well. How much gumption? Figure it to be on par with the GT500, around 550 hp.

Then of course there's the only-spoken-of-in-hushed-tones SMS 351X, which is sure to be a range topper's range topper. No final word yet, but SMS is hoping for about 665 hp and about the same amount of torque. Time to buy stock in a tire company as that's over 100 ponies more than the already unbelievably potent (and tire shredding) 2011 Shelby GT500. Let's just end it by saying we can't wait to drive all three of 'em. For now, enjoy these pics.

The rear wing makes the rear look lardy and tacky. For a guy who approved the stunning Saleen S7, the rear wing and chrome wheels are bad choices. The bright blue does not work for it. I know the factory is using bright blue, but silver would have made this car look much better. Find a better looking rear wing, get better rims or at least non-chrome rims, and paint it silver or dark grey, it would look great.

they said this car is already sold and its a customers car. I dont know if the customer gets to chose the color but it really doesnt matter because somebody wanted it. Some people like the bright yellow, red, blue and shinny chrome wheels... to each his own. I can appreciate the in your face style but I preffer the less "blingy" style like the car in the current V6 mustang commercial

SMS finally came out with a modified 2010 the same week as the 2011 mustangs GT is arriving? I am not sure their timing could have been worse. SMS really needs to have 2011 offerings if it wants to stay ahead of the curve.

      I'll take a standard 5.0 or GT500 factory fresh.

These tuner Mustangs (Saleem, Shelby, etc) are completely and 100% irrelevant now that the 2011 500GT SVT-package is out.

        They have no chance.

Seriously, who would pay more money to get a 4.6L tuned Stang from a near defunct company?
Yay. Yet another Mustang with a cheesy body kit and wheels. I'm with you...
Infact, anyone would take the 5.0 or the GT500. This Mustang has the old 4.6 V8. No matter how awesome it is, it's still old.

The GT mustang is one good platform to start with, aftermarket support will be plenty awesome. Everyone will have their shot, some better than others.

Can a mustang be ordered just shell & supercharged engine from the factory?

      Any Ford heads know?
Ford Racing offers a supercharger kit for the 4.6L Mustangs that you could have dealer installed the day you buy your car. Lower boost (5-6lb) versions of it still allow you to keep your factory warranty if the dealer installed it. I'm thinking they will do the same with the 5.0L, probably within the next 12 months.

Imagine how stupid you would look 'cruising' in this. What ever happened to good taste?
well it better cost less than a new vette..48,000 or the choice is clear. The base v6 or v8 is the best choice for most in 2011.or buy a 2010 with factory add ons.is the best deal.
It's not a bad looking car, I like the styling but the fit and finish is horrendous!! For the kind of money tuners ask for these cars the quality must match the price tag.
SMS did a pretty good job on the design, I just REALLY hate that color.
The previous article about the SMS was much better looking, in Kona blue than this ultra-powdery powder blue. Grabber Blue should be a bit darker, more toward primary-color blue. The silver graphics only make it look all the more pastel.

This thing looks like it is made out of melted and re-cast blue marshmallow peeps. At least it doesn't have ketchup-red stripes like one of the '10 GT500 show cars.

And the rear bumper driver's side panel gap is visible from space. At least from a wide camera shot, which makes the gap plenty wide.

Otherwise it is a fish in a sea of of other similar fish. How many supercharged, body-kit wearing, oddly painted Mustangs are there, between tuners selling them, and guys building their own...
Looks good like it should. The body kit is a little too curvy for my taste, keep it the same size yet a little straighter edges. But I sure wouldn't refuse it in my driveway...

      Junk.
