If you own a 2007 Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon, you might want to watch your fingers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has begun an engineering analysis (the step before a potential recall) at the SUVs' door handles after 88 complaints of people cutting their hands on peeling metal plating. There are a possible 443,000 vehicles affected, but that's only if the NHTSA decides a full recall is necessary at the end of its analysis.

GET READY FOR THIS!!! I was driving my kid's 2005 Chevy Cobalt and sliced my finger on the "near razor blade" peeling interior door handle. Mind you this is AUGUST 2014 and we're talking about an '05 car. I thought this was a major design flaw and went to the dealer (who was useless, except to offer to sell me new ones). So I called CHEVY Consumer Affairs at 866-446-6963 and said if my grandson had been cut it would be our lawyer calling. Long story short, we got 2 NEW door handles FOR FREE installed at the dealership. Just reference Service Request 71-1347938804 and you, too should get replacement handles.

i have the same issue with my daily driver. the "chrome" interior door handle sticker is peeling off. while it has not cut me yet, it does get your attention when grabbing it.

It's just got to be cheaper to spend an extra couple of cents per unit to make them right in the first place.

This year seems to be the year of recalls.
yep F it. Lets just recall the entire year and roll back to 2009 and start over. LOL. Your right Toyota was just the begining. Kinda sad really, these companies have been making cars for decades apon decades, you'd think they could get it right. I will say this is about stupid a sharp door handle really! Isnt that subjective? Maybe I want a sharp handle to keep the car jackers out. should be an instant razorblade popper for the jackers.

I didn't quite cut my hands but I've noticed for a while that the chrome colored GM door handles have a pretty noticeable "seam" to them. More noticeable a seam than most other cars I've seen, so it's not really surprising to me that if it cracked it'd do this.
I find it a little hard to believe that this only applies to the Tahoe and Yukon though since all the chrome GM handles are pretty much the same. I'd probably just sand it down if it was my car though.

This is a big problem. I've cut my hand on these peeling handles before. I work at a GMC dealership and I would say that 50-60% of the cars that buy and trade for have this issue. Almost all 2007 models have the problem but it's not limited to that year model. I have a 2009 with 13k miles that has a peeling handle right now.

This is so true. I transport many cars and I noticed this on most GM Cars

It's the interior Door Handles.. Since they are covered with that chrome, they begin to peel & lift upwards. You open your door from the inside and left your finger rub around the edge when your pull your hand away, you will get cut.

I first noticed this in a 2007 Tahoe but when you step into most 2005 and Newer GM cars, they all have the same problem. It's not just the Tahoe, it any GM product that has those Chrome Plated Door Handles. If I remember correctly, the Chevy Trailblazer comes with similar interior door handle.

Also the 2005 and Newer Chevrolet Cobalt & Uplander also has the Same Door Handle

This is What they discovered now, but there will be a recall with most GM Models coming around the corner now that they're aware of the Tahoe/Subs/Yuks.
