2011 Volkswagen Jetta – Click above for high-res image

The redesigned 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is scheduled to arrive sometime before this fall, but our favorite power plant, the venerable TDI engine, will be arriving at the party a little late. Inside Line is reporting the newest version of the turbo diesel Jetta should arrive in dealerships in early 2011. Inside Line speculates that when it does arrive, the TDI will be a carry-over from 2010 – a direct-injected turbo diesel inline-four rated at 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque.

There is no word on why the Jetta TDI is taking longer than its gas-powered sisters to emerge, but it is par for the course – release delays for previous TDIs were not uncommon. The stalling is not for lack of demand, that's for sure. The current Jetta TDI and Jetta SportWagen TDI have been strong sellers for Volkswagen85% of SportWagens sold this past March were of the TDI variety.
