The first leaked shot of the 2011 Volkswagen Passat has apparently surfaced in Germany's Auto Bild. Assuming it's accurate, the mid-size sedan boasts one of the straightest interpretations of VW's new design language.
In fact, its wide, strongly-horizontal bearing is as much a reminder of the freshly updated Phaeton as it is of the Touareg. Following the lines of the heavily-chrome-accented front end back along the absolutely flat shoulder, the new Passat presents itself as upscale middle-management transport that acts as a stepping stone to the range-topping Phaeton. It'll arrive later this year, and we expect to get our first in-person look at it at the Paris Motor Show.

      These "first" are quite irritating.

if you want to use German, it's ein kleiner. All car names are masculine.

Not exciting or breathtaking but quite a handsome face. Definitely a step up in looks from the existing model. What do the side and back look like?

The Passat is looking good, wonder if they are going to do anything to the CC.

      Not impressed at all.

VW usually has really nice designs. This is way the hell too boring. And while I realize that boring does sell in the US, I think even this is too much of a snooze.

Not that it's ugly. Just not interesting.

      VW I am disappoint.

Agreed, it's nice for sure but boring and I'm really tired of the overwhelming amount of boring looking cars out there today.
This 'boring' design is just something a lot of people like. It may not be exactly beautiful, but there's nothing there that people will find ugly either. It's just a fair, balanced car, with a design that very much appeals to Europeans.

      SHUT UP....

...anyways, I don't know what to make of that with the picture, but I think Volkswagen chose to go with a classic and unoffensive design rather than the radical. With many mainstream automaker going sharp and radical, Its nice to see a classy new car once in a while. I think it will attract enough fans to sell decently.

well... they have the CC for that...
and they said only American cars had that much chrome.
I liked VW before they started putting fake chrome on them around 2000. Now it just looks cheap to me.

Full and wide, the new Passat is on the wheels.

Cool, now we know that the new Passat will have wheels.
