2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS trailer – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Honestly, most of the phrases that come to mind when describing the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS involve some sort of non-FCC-approved dialogue. But then again, can you blame us? Certainly not. And after reading the specs and seeing B-roll footage of the meanest Porsche around, we're having a hard time keeping the drool off of our keyboards.

620 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive. 3,020 pounds. $#*%^!, indeed. Hit the jump to watch Porsche's latest trailer of the GT2 RS, and try to keep the expletives to a minimum.

"Thanks to PDKid for the tip!"

You're welcome, AB. I posted this link in a comment 2 days ago!

I would have thought the GT2 RS would be above using drifting to show off the car.
Agreed, my first thought was, man if a professional driver on a closed test track can't handle this beast, what hope do I have?
Wow. Takes quite a bit of skill to drift a rear engine rear drive hi horsepower car at track speeds.

Don't think my wallet could afford the bill for going backwards into a wall. Probably not frontwards either.

      oh sh@#%@#%t!!
It's a travesty for this video not to be in HD in this day and age..
I guess the regular GT2 barely beats the GT-R so Porsche had to up the ante a bit, too bad it'll probably cost over 3 times more than a lowly Nissan.
If you think that Porsche made this car to "beat" the GTR then you apparently don't know about Porsche. This car's heritage goes back to the early 90's.

This car is so much "cooler" than a freakin Nissan GTR. Those cars look like oversized econoboxes.
Forgetting that it outclasses the GT-R, the GT2 will probably last three times as long as the GT-R.

The GT-R is wonderful exercise in "budget" technology, but it has a made-in-China feel.

I know 'Ring times really aren't worth much but I want to see the 7:18 video ... I wanna I WANNA!!!!
This video smacks of Walter Röhrl. I love it.
I would have to guess that the video's poor camera work, car drifting and music soundtrack will appeal to exactly 3 GT2 RS buyers. I think most of us really only need to see the car setting the 7:18 at the Ring in 1080P WITHOUT any additional music. Why is that so hard?
Come off it. The guys buying this limited production car just need to know of it's existence. They don't give a toss about it's ring time, only it's production run. This video is simply porsche having a little fun with the most over-the-top 911 they could come up with for the rest of us.
@ teflon , the RS owners are a special kind of drivers. if you look at the other Porsche promo videos , you'll see that they are very serious, with a guy explaining stuff about the cars.

the RS videos don't have voice overs , just footage with the car having fun on a track. this video really shows the difference between regular 911 owners and RS drivers.

The moment I heard the soundtrack I hit mute. Kind of a shame to miss the exhaust note because of the crap head banger music.

I have to know who would pick that silly $400,000 Lexus over this car? And why?

      RR
@Mike...its all about pedigree, Porsche has earned it over the years, Toyota hasnt, and perhaps never will, as for comparisons, take Formula One for instance, huge FAIL for toyota, whom actually had the ;largest budget. That said as far as styling goes, at least the Toyota LFA ( and personally I'm not a fan ) differentiates itself from its lower bretheren....as awesome as this Porsche is, its just another 911 iteration with subtle exterior differentiation only a Porsche stalwart would instantly recognize. Now the 918 on the other hand...GIMME>

        @ PGAero

What does the 959 and '97 Turbo S have to do with anything?

Why cant we as auto enthusiast appreciate each of these as something special on there own? Not which one is better then one...because If someone was giving me a 959 I would take it...if someone was giving me a '97 Turbo S I would take it...If someone was giving me a damn LFA ! I would take it.

The bickering is pointless when all these cars are awesome and MUCH better then anything we drive.
Simple. The 911 GT2 RS looks just like another lowly Porsche 911 to most untrained eyes. The LFA on the other hand looks like absolutely no other car in the world. It shares zero part with any other Lexus, for that matter. The LFA is special. The gussied up 911 is not.
LFA has one of the best exhaust notes out there:

@ both, the LFA's problem is this : people who know about cars see the LFA is an ugly, overpriced, underperforming Toyota. people who don't know about cars see the LFA as a riced Lexus. personally i wouldn't want to be seen in a LFA.

        @miketim1

Well, since the LF-A will see a production run of 500 units and the GT2 RS will also see a production run of 500 units, your calculation of "5x more rare" seems (to me) to be unfounded. It also gives me an idea as to just what type of car guy you are.

Wanting to have an exotic looking supercar to impress the hordes of people who are "non car persons" also gives me an idea as to what type of car guy you are.

If I see an LF-A parked next to a 959, '97 Turbo S, or even a good ol' early '80's Turbo slant-nose, I would have my photo taken with the Porsche.

Also, I think it's funny how Lexus has drawn special attention to the "1 of 2 in the world" carbon fiber loom that weaved many of its parts....the same contraption has been building Mercedes' SLR McLaren for the last decade.

Yes, the LF-A definitely will impress people who don't know a thing about cars. But I don't particularly care to impress those people.
That doesn't make the LFA any less of a awesome car.

If they LFA was the exact price as this I would choose it over this anyday....or If i had the money both would be in my garage. Not to mention the LFA will be 5x more rare and more of a sight to behold due to the fact its a Lexus super-car...this Porsche looks like every other damn one before it. If a non car person see this he or she wont know which model Porsche this is and will see it in the same light as the rest of the lineup..the LFA looks expensive, sounds expensive, looks exotic. Park the LFA will take all interest away from it.

Dont get me wrong I LOVE this Porsche...but the LFA has nothing to do with this nor is it silly. Some say the Veyron is silly.

The LFA isnt the most expensive car in the history of automotive...nor is it the most expensive super car...so wtf is the big deal ? GET OVER IT.
        @heyaleve

From what I heard the LFA is quite the drivers car also... MT's LFA vs GTR

" The LFA feels far lighter and more balanced than the GT-R in every phase of driving; and with that V-10 singing, it's a rush like no other. "

and some people say the GTR is the pinnacle of performance...

The LFA is the drivers car and then some. Its a true exotic....the 911 is NO exotic and will never be. Just like @ supercargasm said this is a gussied up 911. The LFA is built brand new from the ground up. Share no part with nothing else on the market and has a design all its own. Yes the LFA is expensive...a super car should be. Your looking affordable your in the wrong market.

        PDKid,
        +1 on the 959 and '97 Turbo S.

I also agree that if you are buying a car because of what OTHER people think of it, then that's too bad.

For me, a 959 is tops. I saw one at Laguna Seca a couple years back. Very cool.
It's tough to think of another road car that I would like to drive more than this.
and it just struck me that the ad style doesn't really fit the brand...

idk... it would work better with corvette ZR1 or GTR
        • 4 Years Ago
That's because there are so many subliminal messages in the video.
really? I still want to drive a BMW after watching the BMW -"Star" promotional video.
AB is funny...they post a silent Porsche video a couple of days ago...some other guy posts the link to THIS video in that post...and now they claim it as their own by posting it a couple days later...LOL...and a haha...ha.

Agree though, drop the music and fast paced cuts...I want engine noises and power slides!!!
