Cobra Vs. Dodge Viper – Click above to watch video after the jump

And by Cobra, we mean the attack helicopter, not the FoMoCo-powered roadster. Sightings of the new cast of Top Gear America have been coming out of the wood work ever since the crew was spotted filming on Mulholland. From what we can tell, Tanner Foust and Rutledge Wood hopped on down to Georgia to film a segment involving none other than the mighty Dodge Viper and the mightier Cobra Attack Helicopter. If that sounds like a brawnier interpretation of the same bit the OG Top Gear pulled with a Lotus just a few short years back, you'd be right. Somehow, that doesn't make it any less awesome.

Luckily for the rest of the interwebs, a member of MX5 Atlanta was on hand to catch some of the action. User d.dutton9512 was not only able to see the Viper give besting the Cobra the old college try, but he also got to catch some of the dialogue between Foust and Wood. His verdict? Not half bad.

While we would love to be hearing that TGA is laying down its own mind-bending stunts instead of pulling from the Top Gear UK playbook, we're still happy to see the show actually filming instead of languishing in an NBC grave somewhere. We'll still reserve final judgment until the show actually airs, but for now, we're optimistic. Hop the jump to see some of the videos for yourself.

Well that sucked. Not even watching the second video, i'm sure it doesn't deserve the hits.

Remake of the Apache vs. Exige back from series 04 ?
      Helo v. car?

Then why not car v. space shuttle or, car v. lawn tractor or, car v. elevator?

      What's the point?
Helicopter vs. car? I fail to see the point. And I DEFINITELY fail to see how TGA will be anything but a short-lived failure. TGUK is a success for many reasons, and they include the fact that UK humor and the hosts are quirky enough to ad to the entertainment value. There's also enough non-PC content that many Americans enjoy. Something that our American broadcasting networks shy away from for fear of law suits. Sorry, but IMO, this type of show simply cannot work here in the US.

If the Viper would have rammed the skid of helo while it was landing, would that rotate the chassis enough so the rotors strike the ground?

Be it a rip off of a stunt or not I don't care! When Top Gear did it, it was a great stunt.
The simple fact they are doing this is in fact giving me hope the show won't be a entire bomb. Now to me the ultimate HUGE question is.... how good will be the directing?
This will bomb and mainly because if the cast. Uk's are funny and interesting, and they always have 3 different views and opinion which is what makes it interesting... Tanner is cool but he more of a stats and numbers kind of host, not really an entertainer

        @ Paul

Unfortunately I agree with you about the ad-supported TV here in the US. This is why you will never get truly honest reviews of products (and not just cars)... and actually, it usually is quite the opposite - usually TV here in the US is more of a telemercial.

        Don't worry. It will.

The success of TG is based on the genuine ability to review cars and pull stunts honestly and humorously. In America, with advertising-funded programming, they simply can NOT be brutally honest the way Clarkson can on BBC. The reality of TV advertising is that a bad review on a Dodge means an instant yank of the Chrysler ad budget, which no programming exec can risk today.

Also, they're using Tanner Foust, someone with driving skills but less charisma than a cinder block. Comparing him to the professional presenting of May and Hammond is flat silly. While the production value might be close (unlikely, as the BBC spends a fortune on TG), those two factors will ensure that TGA is chock full of Suck.

I know some will complain that this is a direct rip off of the Top Gear Exige S episode. And it is. But frankly I would rather they blatantly stole show ideas from the original than completely screw up the show.
I agree, I'm sure it was a hard lesson learned with top gear Australian.
Wow, that's pretty sad reading how many people are actually accepting TGA being blatant ripping off of a show that is still in existence... What is the point of having your own Top-Gear when (if!) it even doesn't come with its own ideas? Is UK English that annoying to you?
They can't think of their own stunts to do so they got the past top gear UK DVD's and are going to recreate their own episodes. What do they think that we have never seen the show.

        DUMB AS****!

This show is going to SUCK!

        Top Gear UK did it!

        @ D Fisk & Yaroukh

Not everyone in America has seen or even heard of topgear, and unless your get BBC or pirate it there is no way to see it. I only know one other person thats ever seen the show and thats my brother in law who is from England. So yah while it is a bit on the dumb side that they are remaking top gears stunts, its nice that people in america whom would never be exposed to the show otherwise may now get to see it even if it isn't as good as the original, hopefully it will be good enough that people will seek out the original to see why the shows creators felt it was worth remaking.

They've already resorted to copying TG UK in the 1st season. How is this show not going to suck?
Hazdaz- I was thinking the exact same thing!!!

Please Please Please make the hosts and director watch and study every second of Top Gear UK!

Last time i saw Jason Dawe he was trying to stuff his fat ass into a Caterham.
True fans forget the Dawe years ever happened.
So long as they ignore every single segment involving Jason Dawe. His segments were about as entertaining as having diarrhea.
Honestly why can't they just show the UK Top Gear in the US when new episodes come out (not have to wait a whole season to watch last seasons eps) Wouldn't have to film a single thing and still make their money. I understand its most likely a copyright thing...but is understanding the Englishmen and their jokes so hard that it wont sell in America on its own, and to prevent further embarassment by making TGA

      imo

What makes the real Top Gear work is the "characters." The Three Musketeers of Top Gear are the reason even my wife watches the show, though she could care less about the cars.

That, plus the sheer expense involved in doing the type of art direction, filming and location shoots they do has already doomed TGA to being a pathetic attempt.
