1980 Ferrari Pinin concept – Click above for image gallery

Aston Martin has done it. Porsche has too. Even Lamborghini toyed with the idea in the form of the Estoque concept. But according to chief executive Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari will never follow its rivals in making a four-door model.

The closest we'll get, points out Felisa, is the Maserati Quattroporte, the four-door sports sedan from Ferrari's Modenese sister-company, which is set to gain a baby brother in the near future. Maranello once considered the idea of a four-door with the 1980 Pinin show car (above), but as close as it may have come, the concept never made it to production.

Addressing the notion that Ferrari once swore it would never make a hybrid or use start-stop technology – both of which are in the pipeline from Maranello currently – Felisa responded that both these measures were required by government regulation, but that nobody's forcing them to make a sedan. Well, there you have it.

I can't afford a Ferrari. But if I could, it would be my #1 choice for a sports car,#2,3 & 4 choices would be a viper, challenger or mustang cobra. Two door manual shift only!!! I want a fun car to drive through the countryside on a beautiful sunny day when I don't care where I'm going or how long it takes to get there..A garage Queen! A car for me!! Not for the wife and/or kids. Ferrari builds cars only for enthusiasts, not for hauling groceries. I hope that I never see an SUV or minivan with the prancing horse on it's grille. If you want a rolling phone booth for the commute GM, Ford, and Chrysler rubber stamp those boring things everyday.
To make a profit Ferrari should buy or start another company with a different name but keep the Ferrari name only for the sports cars.

There was the Ferrari Pinin, but there also was the Ferrari 456 GT Sedan and, worse, the 456 GT Venice.
        i like the venice....

technically those were concepts/coach built one-offs; not production ferraris

I've seen the future of Ferrari & this CEO is dead on. Ferrari's will have NO doors, no wheels, multiple seating to fit about 25 and teleport you instantly from place to place. Never act like you're from the future, it might come & try to take you back!

At the time, I thought the Pinin was pretty cool. It made the cover or Road & Track, along with a feature article.

Why is it that Jay Leno doesn't have any Ferraris?

I think he knows somethin !

They`re rooflines are too low to accomodate his massive head.

I never thought I'd see a communist POTUS either, so I'll take this with a grain of salt.

"Ferrari CEO pledges we'll never see a four-door Prancing Horse"
        I know, right?

And why doors, exactly? Can we get some effort put towards wings - a lil' pegasus action, perhaps?
That would require some serious genetic engineering. I mean, just getting *one* door on a horse...
Well to be honest, I love the Rapide, I ended up very impressed with the Panamera, and the Estoque looked pretty wicked. Now, I kind of wanna see what Ferrari would come up with for the 4 door market.
THEY MAKE AUTOMATICS; WHY NOT 4 DOORS?
If you can afford a Ferrari you can probably afford a second car. Make that one the four door.
Thats because they already sell one, its called the Maserati Quattroporte. Besides,if some rice Arab told them he wanted a 4door Ferrari WOULD (yes they would, they should'ne even lie because they are had some Bespoke cars done before that were typical Ferrari's). Its all about the Money, well,i know Bentley Bespoke team will do everything in their power to please there customer,Ferrari maybe not so much, besides you cant get buy a new Ferrari as a new customer ,one of their policies.
