Honda Impossible Dream II – Click above to watch video after the jump

Honda has resurrected The Impossible Dream once more. Hands down one of our favorite car spots of all time, the original ad aired in the UK way back in 2005 and featured a smattering of models from the Japanese company's past. From lowly scooters and the lovable S800 to the company's early racing bikes and F1 cars, the ad was a highlight reel of all of which the company has to be proud.

Things have changed quite a bit for Honda in five years. It's walked away from its F1 efforts, abandoned the S2000 to the sands of time and brought the brunt of its focus to odd-looking people movers. You won't find any of that in The Impossible Dream II, though. Instead, Honda has removed any reference to Formula One and clipped the old hot-air balloon at the end in favor of products like the new Honda Jet, CR-Z hybrid and the FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. Even Asimo the robot makes a cameo and the ending features a hot tub powered by a Honda generator.

Watching the spot, which is about 30 seconds longer than the original and concludes with a new line from NPR superstar Garrison Keillor, we can't help but hope Honda will find a way to return to its former place as an automotive innovator capable of producing excellent pieces of engineering with a focus on driver involvement. An impossible dream? We hope not. Hit the jump to see the new spot.

That's a beautiful, quirky and at once awe inspiring commercial, but yes Honda, make your current cars a little more exciting please, and dream a little.

RRRRRRRRRRIght about that one Honda, where to start oh I know first start building new motors so that you dont have to relie anymore on an old image that dosnt exist anymore, then bring back some cool cars remember ones that where leading the industry because they where light weight fast and frugal all at the same time? I seem to remember the Civic being the size of the Fit and the Accord being the size of the current Civic. Just saying Honda go back to your roots of making nimble light weight fwd cars and success will come.

The only thing I like about the new one is the inclusion of the HondaJet..but I like the old one's feel better

All they needed was an F1 car in there and they could have had a show case of grave yard projects they abandoned. I love how they keep showing the Clarity and home fueling station like its widely available.

I think Honda should use that hot tub and go back to a time where they use to make exciting cars.

      I'm just saying

        I couldn't agree more.

Great commercial, they just don't make a car anymore that lives up to it.

Discontinuing the NSX was the worst thing they ever did. Everyone loved it, why did they stop making it?

Nooo, you beat me to it!
        That was my exact thought.

...also... what a funny movie, loved it!

They should have started the video with him mowing his lawn with a honda lawnmower and then transitioned to the scooter...

Aside from the Jet, the speed boat was probably my next favorite vehicle in the ad...

      They took out the S800?!?!?
      o_O

What a beautiful and inspiring commercial. Honda truly does have an illustrious history. And to echo the sentiments of the forum, let's see Honda make some cars that can live up to the NSX or S2000. I don't even care if they are hybrids. They should just perform like sports cars.

Autoblog readers are really a jaded and unhappy lot. It was a great and very clever celebration of a company that has produced some remarkable products. And in that they did very well with that ad.

The producers obviously got my subliminal messages.

The first time I saw the original and watched the boat go flinging off into the mist, I was like, "Oh cool, a HondaJet's gonna zip outta there!"... and was then sorely disappointed to see a balloon.

It's too bad the CR-Z is *not* a 3rd-gen CRX.

Honda, you need to watch some Fast & Furious movies. Seriously. You'll figure out why we loved you so much in the not so distant past.

But don't change your motorcycle/lawn mower/generator/etc. business units... they seem to be doing just fine.

      Awesome Ad...

Toyota and nissan should have something like this.
So they made it longer by first ditching their ill-fated late F1 program, and have now inserted the CR-Z and the FCX Clarity. I'm surprised that they didn't just omit all of the sport fun cars from the new version and then maybe throw in some more fun stuff like power generators and lawnmowers.

Kind of feels like an ad version of the Star Wars movies re-releases. Who cares what the actual fans like. Lets just add a bunch of mediocre crap that disappoints everyone.

Honda needs a Gary Kurtz type around to tell them to stop making boring cars.
Oh wait, Maximum Bob is retiring. Maybe he can consult.
