Grynch raps a tribute to "My Volvo" – Click above to watch video after the jump

Rapper Grynch isn't about Maybachs and Phantoms – he's straight up all about a 1986 Volvo 240 DL... wagon. So much so, in fact, he's penned a song and made a video for it. One never knows what to expect when told to check out a rap video about a Volvo, but we found it a lot cooler than we think we had a right to. Follow the jump for the rhymes, but be ready before you click – Grynch says "I'm gon' need you to feel me on this..."

Will it be recorded in Chinese for Volvo's new owners?

cool beat, somewhat old school, good job on the rhymes also. i do love those cars! props to whoever this guy is! but i forgot his name already...

"Knock on wood man, I'll probably die in that car."

Well, based on Volvo's reputation for passenger safety, I'd say that's not likely.

you might want to watch this video - that old Volvo - not so safe!

I saw a study a few years back on car safety in the 90s. They listed every can on the road in the 90s and the rate of fatalitiy for each car. The safest car...Volvo 240.

        +1 on the safety.

Catchy and more fun than I had expected. If you heard "Volvo" and "rap video" you would first think "fail", but this really worked nicely. Interesting camera angles, and overall a sense of "I am what I am, and I drive an old Volvo" (to steal a quote from Popeye)

Used IRS refund this year to buy a clean, safe, 940 wagon for my wife & baby. White with blacked out windows, it looks like a panda-wagon. Slow and "mushy" stock, but that is fixable with some suspension tweaks.

Instrumental please, I'm gonna rap about my 2000 Honda Civic. Don't worry, it's all stock!

I just Facebooked this youtube link the other day. Ithaca NY was the land of the Volvo when I grew up (hell my parents always have one or two) and the hometown totally relates.

I had a '91 240 wagon... maroon, vinyl seats, and no A/C. Utter hell in the Texas summers. The exhaust wasn't replaced/installed correctly by the guys at Midas so on right hand turns the downpipe would rub against the prop shaft and it would make a nasty noise. Luckily I had power windows... Even though it had all those defects that car holds a special place in my heart..... but not enough to rap about it ha

      LOVELY!!!

      ++++ REP ON THAT SON.

I love this song. I'm sick of mainstream artists that flaunt luxury cars (that they probably don't even own).. it's so ridiculous plus it's making the rap scene so monotonous.

This song, on the other hand, depicts how ALL rap songs should be. Sharing their personal experience, and none of that commercial crap.

Great job GRYNCH. I love your car too.

Epyx, you're kidding, right? Or did you stop paying attention to rap in 1979? I agree it's a travesty that schools have been cutting music programs, but the rest of your tirade has no basis in reality. Where do you think beats come from? Hooks, sung refrains, etc? Rappers--moreso the producers--are incredibly resourceful and musically intelligent artists. They know where to mine and when to build from scratch. They have an excellent sense of musical history. Sure, a lot of it is utter dreck, but I'd put the ratio of wheat to chaff at about the same level as rock and jazz.

Exactly. No one pays for music any more, but somehow rappers have a $500k car budget...no doubt financed by their managers...at usurious rates....

wow... i understand its about a car. But, its nowhere near a lyrical masterpiece..

My mother's silver 240 station wagon developed an untraceable acoustic resonance that made it sound like a whale song above 7 mph.
