Top Gear America caught filming – Click above for high-res image gallery

We understand if you don't believe that the History Channel has adopted Top Gear America. After all, you've been burnt before. But according to the keen-eyed crew from Kilometer Magazine, filming has already begun. During the U.S. launch of the new Jaguar XJ, the new cast of Top Gear America was spotted filming on none other than California's infamous Mulholland Drive.

What were they doing? From the looks of things, Tanner Foust was doing what he does best by laying down lots and lots of smoky burnouts under the baleful glare of the CHP. Though judging by the cars spotted on the set, we may be looking at a good old fashioned sports-car comparison when the show finally hits cable. Flip through KM's pictures, and you'll spot cars like the Porsche Carrera 4S, Hyundai Genesis Coupe and the Ford Mustang.

We have to wonder whether this was one big slip up or a planned leak. Having a parade of auto journos cruise by just as Foust opens up for his monologue is either the worst luck in the history of television or one very clever PR stunt. Either way, there are a boatload of photos for you to speculate over as a result. Enjoy. Thanks to everyone for the tips!

I could count the number of good car shows in America Zero. For God Sakes even Steel Dreams is watchable just because of the cars feature so this Show can't get here soon enough.

      WANT... THIS... SHOW...
I'm still willing to give it a shot.

There is such a lack of GOOD car shows in the US, that even if this is just OK, I'll still be happy.

I think we already knew that they were filming this show - does this mean we'll be getting constant headlines about the show being 'caught' shooting? Please find something else to cover.

I hope adam carolla is still involved, love that guy
        • 4 Years Ago
Sure about that? Adam said that he and Tanner were both picked by the History channel on his podcast about 3 weeks ago. I haven't listened to them all since then, but I haven't heard him mention anything to the contrary since then.

        adam ferrara < adam corolla

that is a shame. Hopefully they will pick him up for season two.

Adam is not part of the TGA, he had to decline because he filmed a pilot for NBC and if it is picked up he could not do both. He spoke about it on the pod cast.

        He's a Legend of funnyness.

He would complete any Top Gear imitation.
        He is.

Despite what ngiotta said, Adam Carolla is not apart of Top Gear America anymore. Another comedian by the name of Adam Ferrara will be replacing him.

Your kidding me! Adam Corolla is not that funny. Tanner Foust knows how to drive but he isn't that great as a Tv person. Does anyone remember what tanner did to the Audi R8. His supercars exposed show wasn't that great. Also why is eric on the show homes and gardens don't go good with cars. The producers could have done alot better on the hosts.
The show will not be on very long.

I'm keeping an open mind. It's not like we still can't watch the real Top Gear, so one more auto show is fine by me. I do wish that Carolla was on board, his Carcast show is fantastic, he really knows his stuff in addition to being funny.

I don't get this sentence, "During the U.S. launch of the new Jaguar XJ, the new cast of Top Gear America was spotted filming on none other than California's infamous Mulholland Drive."

How does the launch of a new Jag pertain to this story?
The Jaguar launch was being held at the same time as the taping, which is how the Kilometer folks stumbled on it. They must have been in town for the Jaguar event.

nit: this is mulholland highway, not mulholland drive.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump to the conclusion that this filming was for TGA. Let us not forget that Tanner Foust is the host of his own (horrible, terrible) show on Speed. I believe it's called "SuperCars Exposed." Then again, the Genesis isn't exactly a "supercar" lol...

Car enthusiast and Wall Street Journal columnist Dan Neil should be the clarkson counterpart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not Top Gear without Richard, James and Jeremy. It's something else entirely. 404 awesome potential not found.

It also looks like they'll be doing a tired Mustang/Genesis comparo every magazine has done since last year.

Top Gear America will not be Top Gear UK, obviously. In most cases, the original is always the best. That being said, I think Top Gear America has the potential to be a great show. I used to love watching a bunch of car shows on American television, but after I watched my first Top Gear UK episode, they all seem pretty boring and mediocre now. I don't care if Top Gear America isn't quite as good as the UK version, I just want it to be decent and done right. If they stick to the proven format and create a show that's even half as good as the original, Top Gear America could still easily be one of the best car shows on American television.
