2011 BMW 535Li – Click above for high-res image gallery

The Audi A8 L W12 isn't the only long-wheelbase saloon to debut at this year's Beijing Motor Show. BMW has a stretched version of the all-new 2011 5 Series that'll be built and sold exclusively in China. The limo-like Fiver is a full 5.5 inches longer than the standard 5 Series sedan, all of which accounts for additional rear legroom. New rear seat amenities like an entertainment system, adjustable sunblinds and a folding table are on hand, as well.

Spec-wise, the long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series isn't much different than the models sold in other markets. Three six-cylinder engines are available and eight-speed automatic transmissions are standard across the board. It may not be as over-the-top as Herr Audi, but we'd gladly go for a ride in the back of this upscale Bimmer any day.

      Shouldn't it be an "iL"?.......

Do the people that buy this car really have a chauffeur? If I could afford this car and a chaffeur I would just buy a better car and drive it myself.
BMW already makes a longer version of the 5 series on the same platform, it's called the 7 series. (Yes, I know there are other differences, so please don't bother responding to inform me)
That was my reaction as well.
blackEldo, there are differences between the 5- and 7-series sedans. Gosh.

Well in China labor rates are quite a bit lower so hiring a chauffer isn't an $80K a year thing like it is in the U.S. (I was kinda surprised to find out that chauffering was so lucrative but I guess the salaries are good since you work for the uber rich) so it's a tiny fraction of the cost of the car.
So there might really be someone who can afford only the 5 plus a chauffer vs the 7, keeping in mind that the 5 series and 7 series are both a lot more expensive in China because of taxes.

well said tekdemon about the labor rates and the ridiculous tax on cars, I'm currently assigned(exiled) in one of the country in SE asia and was really surprised when i found out that our company was paying close to $90k for my 523i and even more surprised to find out that our driver only gets $400/mo for basically driving me around 6 days a week from 8am to 8pm or even later.

BTW just an FYI a 735 or 730(dunno which one is correct) down here cost about 190k

My thoughts exactly. It's a great idea until you end up at a stoplight next to a 765Li and then the envy begins. If you can afford to have a person to drive you around everyday why would you buy the 5 instead of the 7?

I like how the car extras menu is like a chinese dinner menu-when you choose 4 extras or entrees you get a sunroof or when you pick 5 extras you get a CD player and so on-

I'M SICK OF CRAP BEING MADE IN CHINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry, but you don't buy a 5 Series to let someone else drive it for you.

ANYTHING Chinese: From lead-painted kids toys, to 'supposedly' American built Guitar Amps (Peavey), has a long to go before I'll be trusting it. Yes, I'm sure they have the same commercials that we have with workers saying how proud they are because they are manufacturing goods which are 'safe' for the World Market but, that as a 'Fact' is undoubtedly going to be quite some time from now. Currently, even if it comes with a Chauffer, I will not own it - PERIOD.

        @R.MCKENZIE
I love my country, but my parents own a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Dodge Durango that have both been in the shop over and over for dash shortages to constant recalls. It has been so stressful for them. I was in a wreck recently My BMW is 9 years old and I've had it in the shop one time. It died while I was driving, and it was just a broken belt. I supported the American employees of the BMW dealership I went to before, and I will again. Also, when I was in high school and college, I owned a Honda Prelude, and a Toyota 4-Runner, and neither were ever in the shop. Still.. God bless the USA.

All of you guys are missing that this is in China (only)... 'Buying' someone to drive you around is not the cash outlay that it would be in Europe, the states, etc. So, yes, you could be in a position to purchase this instead of a 750 and still have the cash to pay a chauffeur.

As long as they keep iDrive outta my backseat.
