2010 Lingenfelter Camaro runs the 1/4 mile - Click above to watch the video after the jump

Earlier this week we told you about Camaro5fest, the largest gathering of current generation Camaros and their owners. While GM's big news from the event was a three mile long parade of Camaros, others, like Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, were all about the drag racing at the South Georgia Motorsports Park.

The Decatur, IN maker of go-fast Chevys brought out their new LS9-powered 2010 Camaro packing 855 horsepower. The supercharged V8 has been fortified with various LPE performance parts like a more aggressive camshaft, CNC ported heads, JE forged aluminum pistons and a smaller supercharger pulley. Despite being equipped with a six-speed manual, the Lingenfelter Camaro posted a best run of 10.36 seconds at 139.5 mph. Thankfully the camcorders were rolling, and we have visual evidence of the car's capabilities. You can see a similar run (10.41 at 139.9 mph) in the video posted after the jump.

It should have broke into the high 9's and evidently it fell short. It's obese to say the least and it sure makes 855 Hp look slow.

      Oh well!!

The Vette kept losing traction on shifts. It's called "nth gear rubber" where n is the gear at which you burn rubber while shifting. Bad tire selection and/or unskilled driver.

      Boring.

All the while listening to Sirius/XM, apparently.

      To ngiotta,

You compare this to the Shelby Cobra and call the Camaro a pig? Those things are just as heavy if not heavier.
Not at all they are around 3800 the camaro is more without the supercharger on this one and hell the 2011 will be even lighter

Did you not see the Corvette getting sideways then putting on the brakes?

Also, that was a ZR-1. It should of done high 11s.

        low 11s*

If the car would go on a diet in production form and in tuner form it would be a helluva a lot faster...maybe???
put a driver in the car next time, lame ass shifts..
I strongly agree there was a loose nut behind the wheel.
Pretty cool but I would spend the same cash on a Vette or Mustang and it would be faster.

If they are serious about drag racing the car, they need to scrap the IRS and put a solid axle in. The Launch was horrible, and most likely because of the IRS. As the IRS changes camber and trac as it compresses on launch, which causes excessive wheel spin. A solid axle won't suffer either of these, and will hook up and launch the car. There are mustangs with less power that will pull the front wheels up with slicks on.

So a V8 RWD car went fast down a 1/4 mile dragstrip. No way. Stop the presses.

      ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Going fast in a straight line is so BORING!!!!!!!!ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

"Going fast in a straight line is so BORING"

Many Civic owners with a 0-60 in 20 seconds say the same thing.........

I'm not particularly impressed. As much HP and torque as it has, it should have done better. At least it's as fast as the old ones though right?
agreed, and only achieved a 10.4 with 855hp... something seems wrong there
        • 4 Years Ago
At least NASCAR actually turns. Drag racing doesnt even do that. Auto cross FTW!

Wonder how many transmission's & rear ends they went through before they FINALLY made these runs possible ? Just saying . One set of testers only made it through 3 or 4 burn-outs before their 6-speed manual went south .

Why's this modded down? It's not a slam on anybody--slicks and big power are hard on driveline components. If you hammer on your car you WILL find weak points.

And for the joker criticizing the shifts, let's see YOU grab a fist full of gears in a ten-second car. I didn't think so.

I don't think many of you realize how quick a ten-second street car is. Just keep throwing yourselves back hard into the seats of your Civics and pretending that you have a hard time harnessing all that massive power.
