The worst parking job – Click above to watch video after the jump

Justice has finally caught up with the driver of a BMW X5 who thought she could get away with playing Monster Jam in the parking lot of the local gym. You may recall the tale of Tripta Kaushal. Last October, the 62-year old driver was attempting to park her Bavarian SUV at Extreme Fitness. Instead of coming to a controlled stop, Kaushal launched her 'ute onto the row of parked cars across from her, backed off and then drove away. Luckily, the gym had parking lot surveillance, and police eventually nabbed the woman.

On Tuesday, Kaushal pleaded guilty to failing to report a collision, and was issued a $500 fine. Even better, the lady has been banned from driving between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., so you can bet your parking lot will be safe from dusk 'till dawn. The court also ordered her to pay restitution for the cars her X5 mounted last year. Makes us wonder what those poor folks were doing for transportation for the last five months.

Too bad for her she wasn't driving a Toyota, they are like a get-out-of-jail-free card in these situations.

      Let's see the facts:

      1. Woman
      2. Asian
      3. Old
      4. Drives an SUV

There isn't a way for this person to become a worse driver.

This is a bit off topic, but why don't we tie licences to vehicle weight? I mean moreso than now.

So like if you do poorly on a drivers test, you can drive a compact or subcompacy
If you do well, upto full size.
If you pass an awareness class, all vehicles.

Nothing bothers me more than the same licencing and profeciency requirements for a person in some small old neon or Corolla and a big F-350/HD3500

We make semi drivers do it right? Clearly, we see that a larger vehicle should be driven with measures of care, so why is it that we allow the same measures of care for 2000 lb cars and 8000 lb trucks?

And don't tell me insurance takes care of this, it's not perfect. However, we're we to allow insurance companies to price premiums on anything they wanted to, I think it'd happen.

Because, let's face it, we all know exactly what to watch out for on the road, teenagers with facial hair and RWD coupes from the late 90s, and girls with large sunglasses and cell phones. Why is it that these people don't have freakin' insane insurance premiums?

Just a sec, this didn't happen on a public highway, did it? So why do traffic laws apply?

Fair enough, charge her with criminal damage, but don't let traffic laws spill over off our roads and onto private property. And I say it's fair enough to ban her from driving because she used a vehicle to cause criminal damage. But let's be clear: she didn't break any traffic laws here.

What next? Ticketing Nascar drivers for speeding?
It's a parking lot. That's private property, surely? Hence traffic laws don't apply.

Ironically, she might be one of the few who actually drove it as it was intended to be driven. Gotta have that 'ute for something other than bragging about your car with fellow soccer moms at brunch.

If she had been a non-connected, lower-class person driving a dented Jeep Cherokee, she would have gotten 3 months in jail and a completely suspended license.

      I love unwritten caste systems.
Jail time for leaving the scene of an accident? I think thats a little harsh considering she didn't hurt anyone (except for their wallet). Fines are sufficient, and the suspended license is a nice slap in the face. Totally deserved.

And on the class warfare topic, the middle class (like most people that drive bimmers) should not be confused with the disgusting pigs that make up the top 1% of our wealth in this country. No, 500k a year earnings is not a lot of money.
She got off way light IMO. She attempted to steal from the person (people?) she hit, attempted to defraud the other person insurance company, drove wrecklessly, left the scene of a crime, committed hit and run, man I could do this all day. For a measley $500 fine and some unenforceable restriction why not run when you hit some parked car?

Bring back public flogging. It's not a matter of a cheap fine and restitution (her insurance will pay that). This person is a public menace.

Lots of jealous folks around here inciting class warfare.Man-it must be the recession!
Let me see-a 62 yr old lady got in to an ACCIDENT-probably hit the accelerator pedal instead of brake (a common mistake older folks make and a major cause of these "my car didn't stop" accidents) I didnt see her driving recklessly as some one above claims.Dont you think its a stretch to call it a CRIME scene-?No one was injured and it wasnt intentional. She left the ACCIDENT scene-probably rattled and yes that was a BIG MISTAKE. She should pay for it but jail time?
