2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG – Click above to watch video after the jump

One does not buy the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG to drive to and from the country club. Nor do they lay down the $85,750 it takes to call the ballistic sedan their very own so that they can make the morning commute in style and sophistication. They pick up the tweaked four door because they know that with years of training and a little luck, they too can hoon the tires off of the car just like in the video after the jump.

Mercedes-Benz has gone ahead and beat every auto journo on the planet to the punch by releasing a video of the 6.3-liter V8 doing what it does best. Some lucky driver was turned loose on a wet Brooklands track to kick the tail around in beautiful fashion, and there's plenty of fancy camera work to help keep our jaws permanently glued to the floor. Throw in the rumble of the sedan's beating heart, and you've got the perfect answer to the mid-week doldrums. Lewis Hamilton would approve of the world-class hoonage, and so do we – so check out the action after the jump.

Yes, they do. Come to South Florida, where the majority of AMG Mercedes seem to be piloted by country-club housewives with fake tans, giant sunglasses, and ridiculously tiny dogs.

US market clearly differs from European.

        @simianspeedster

Actually its "give me the most expensive one, and i dont care how much it costs" But why have an E when you can have the SL55 AMG? Girls with poodles should love that car, and its expensive enough so that the other desparate housewives can go "ooo look at what she got!"

That's not exclusive to So Fla or SoCal. If the author believes that the large majority of these are sold for anything other than commuting or driving to the country club, he is deluded.

I think it must come from people with disgusting amounts of money walking into the dealer and demanding the "best one". They have no idea what it is or why it's the best, they just don't want anyone at the next charity ball pulling up in a car better than theirs.

        ...and fake boobs.

        SouthShoreSRT:

EXACTLY -- I can see the potential AMG customer waltzing around the dealer asking "why is that one $20,000 more?" After hearing all about the engineering, handling , power, etc. they say something like "I'll get that one because I like the wheels better" but what they're really thinking is "I'll get that one because other MB drivers will know it cost $20,000 more."

That doesn't take away from the fact that it's a helluva car, but I think there are a lot fewer performance oriented AMG drivers than the author might think. AMG cars are all about power, but little to no attention is paid to weight, transmissions or anything else that would represent MB pushing the technology/performance envelope. What happened to MB, the company that focused on engineering, not raw power?

If MB is succeeding with their strategy, who am I to say they're wrong? It just bums me out that MB used to make lust-worthy cars in my eyes and now I have very little interest in any MB at any price point, AMG or not.

that driver has the best job ever.

Sweet car, but I'd still rather have an E60 M5.

Yawn, awesome car but was anyone else underwelmed by the footage? They should have just given it to Top Gear to hoon on a dry track. That would have got my pulse racing! This, not so much...

Epic footage. ///AMG on it's best.

      Sweet video, sweeter car.

Seriously, props to Mercedes for one of the best sleeper sports sedan available today. It even addresses the one grievance I have against the new Benz's - the lack of an actual gear shift knob! I just can't drive comfortably without one; just feels like something important is missing. And shifting with that weak "stick" protruding from the right side of the steering column is such a buzz-kill.

If I could just nitpick about the video though, I don't like how the ending scene shows the car running on an empty black background; you can clearly see reflections moving on the chrome parts, like the grill, which is really bizarre and confusing to the eyes. But otherwise, pretty awesome!

Don't let consumer reports see this. They'll have a heart attack.

poor man drifting...wet track = less tires to buy, less power needed to drift

and the cars exhaust sounded a little too deep to match the subtle looks of the car...but i gues thats part of the fun of it

      Love it!

      Herr Clarkson would approve.

      sick!

This alone should sell a few cars.

The current E63 AMG is probably the best AMG ever, and will be even better with the new 5.5L TT in '11 or '12.

All AMG cars should come with a big red 'off' button on the dash to kill all the electronic nanny programs.
When pushed to its limits on our track’s handling course, the rear of the E63 AMG we bought slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control.----------------Consumer Report

Uh, it's a 6.2 liter. The badge on the side doesn't tell you the displacement.

And as much as I hate Mercedes, that engine is filthy. Audi better step up their game and bring the RS6...
