With word that Saab wants to do battle with Mini in the quirky compact segment, the web has exploded with renderings of what the tiny Swedish machine could look like. CAR is the latest publication to try its hand at imagining the face of a new-world 9-2, and has been so kind as to share its take with the rest of the world. Supposedly, Spyker CEO Victor Muller gave the CAR artists a peek at his own hand drawing of how he envisions the little sedan. The publication's team of rendering gurus took things from there.
We can't say we're exactly smitten with what the artists came up with. There's plenty of Bentley in that nose, sure, but it doesn't quite fit on a car the size of one's slippers. The good news is, Saab has plenty of time to turn the design into something mouth watering. While Muller made waves at this year's Geneva Motor Show by saying he would like to bring the 9-2 back from the grave, it's going to be a long hard road before the Swedish automaker is introducing any models that are new from the ground up.

We'll keep our ears to the rails, though, just in case the company happens to pull a miracle out of thin air and surprise us all.

Not bad at all. I really like the styling direction of the front - the rear end not as much.

Not as nice as the renderings from the other day, but at least these renderings appear to be based on reports of what the 9-2 will look like from people that have seen it. The ones from the other day appear to be based on nothing more than an artist's ideas.

      This "commissioned" version: 2/10

      This "non commissioned" version: 10/10

I really hope someone at Saab is seeing this. The second one will boost the brand so much more and at the same time would outsell the first handily.

Looks kind of Fiat 500ish... I like it!

GM would probably still let them use their gay crash test dummies. They should at least ask. Just sayin'.

I kinda like that rendering too, but Saab has a difficult road to travel. They need a lot of positive press to get people shopping them again.

I think the other Saab "teardrop" render was better.

Still, at least this has a wraparound windshield.

I does not reflect the new corporate Saab face (New 2nd Gen 9-5, 9-4X..) so I don't think this would be it...most folks won't instantly recognize it as a Saab.

I think the 92010 Sixten rendition by Eduard Gray is so spot on..as a SAAB.

Love the general direction, but the front end seems a little too close to the old one to look right. I'd rather the design be inspired by the old classic, as opposed to looking too forced.

How great is it to hear so much news and promise coming out of Saab though? The people there must be totally rejuvenated about work.

I'm more excited to see what Saab's designers come up with. One thing Saab has never been short of is extremely gorgeous prototypes.
