2011 Scion tC: Sneak Peek – Click above for image gallery

Thanks to our anonymous tipster from earlier in the day, we know a lot more about the updated 2011 Scion tC than we did yesterday. Tomorrow we'll know even more when the new car debuts at the 2010 New York Auto Show. In the meantime, Scion itself has released a video that confirms many of our tipster's earlier details, as well as provides some unfettered views of the new tC's design.

The video, which can be viewed after the jump, confirms that the tC will be available with a slightly larger engine at 2.5 liters of displacement compared to the current model's 2.4 liters. We don't know yet how much little extra bit of volume will translate into extra horsepower, but the man in the video says there will be more than before (torque too). Add to that confirmation of both a six-speed manual and automatic transmission, improved fuel economy, 18-inch alloy wheels, bigger brakes and an eight-speaker stereo with a USB port.

The video also shows a few fast glimpses of the '11 tC's redesigned exterior, which we've captured and gallerized below in the hope that a few seizures from the video's quick cuts might be prevented. Regardless, It won't be long until the teasing stops and the 2011 Scion tC greets the world onstage in the Big Apple tomorrow.

        It pains me to say it, but I think we're watching the beginnings of Toyota turning into the GM of the future. They're making too many of the same mistakes.

      is there something im missing about the tc?

      monstrously slow... boring looking... goes out of its way to label itself as a ricer car...

      who wouldnt spend 20% more and get a mazdaspeed 3 which would blow this thing out of the water???

        Uh, spending 20% more on any car usually can get you a faster car.

        Remember, this is a $17k car, not a $23k car. It competes with the Mazda3, Golf, Civic, etc. It doesn't compete with the GTI, Si, Mazdaspeed3, WRX, etc.

      I have liked the Tc and I think these improvements should make the car at least more sporty in nature. At least you can get a TRD performance parts that give the car better handling and performance.

      I have nothing negative to say about teh TC because its a good and simple car. The rest of you just want attention.

      Hopefully the engine in this one inspires some kind of quickening of the pulse, unlike the lifeless 2.4 ..

      I test drove a 2.4 model in '08 and it wasn't really any faster than my '95 Integra LS.. and the manual transmission sucked in comparison.

        I'm with you on that one. That's what I don't understand about the tC. Why give it a bigass Camry motor, when you could had lightened the car up, then put the even lighter 1.8 DOHC from the Celica in there. With 100HP/L, the all around lighter car would had done well. Now I realize that the 05-10 version would never had gotten this as the Celica still existed during part of the tC's first generation. But now that it's getting a refresh, I feel like it's a missed opportunity. Scion could had really had something legit performance-wise.

      I bought a wife one back in '05, and although cramped for me I did enjoy driving it every now and then. It had some decent pep to it and the sun roof was the selling point. She got rid of it in '07 and hasn't looked back.

      The design of the car for todays standards is extremely boring. I almost feel bad I got it for her. And this new design, from what we can see of course, looks like they didn't bother with jack and ______. Those headlights look like the new corolla's, and the back resembles the malibu.

      I think Scion needs to go back to their roots. Give the kids what they want, cheap and unique cars. Now with these cars up in the 17's all the way to 20+ along with uninspired designs is killing the company's image.

        I bought one in '04 ('05 model year) as well and it's exactly what it claimed to be: reliable, cheap, somewhat-sporty transportation. The features and benefits outweighed just about anything else in the price range, it was faster than anything else in it's price range (it came out at $15,9xx in '04), especially as it was competing against the 115 Golf 2.slow, 140hp Mazda3, etc. It was even faster 0-60 than the Civic Si at the time.

        It's only real problem is that since 2004, EVERYBODY else has stepped up their game. The Rabbit came out with 170hp stock. The GTI and Si bumped up from 180hp to 200+ hp. 6sp tranny's became the rule, not the exception, and suddenly the tC wasn't anywhere near the screaming deal that it was when it came out.

        I'm definitely interested to see what the new one is, but it looks (to me?) more like just an updated version instead of the jaw-dropper that the first one was. Slightly bigger engine, more hp, 6sp, but overall it looks very similar. Will just have to wait and see though.
