Audi Q5 Custom Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

Once upon a time the in-house performance studios of Germany's finest automakers wouldn't have anything to do with crossovers and SUVs. But several Mercedes-Benz G55 AMGs and BMW X6 Ms later, Audi's quattro GmbH is reportedly looking to join the fold with a pair of super-tuned Q5s.

The reports claim that Audi is preparing an SQ5 and an RSQ5, both backed by versions of the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 found in the latest S4 sedan, offering 333 horsepower in the SQ5 and as much as 408 in the RSQ5. Along with the engine upgrades, we could expect commensurate chassis, brakes and appearance enhancements as well.

For better or worse, these appear to be simple rumors at the time, but we'll be keeping our eyes open for more info, so stay tuned.

      High-performance chickenshed.

They should quit wasting time and money, and make an RS3 instead.

Whatever happened to the RS4? Seems like they (might be) jumping the gun here if these rumors come true.

        @Moe

There is a GLK55 AMG V8 and performance SUVs are quite popular in Europe. Be it modified Mercs, BMWs or Range Rovers. No reason not produce an RS Q5, it would defo sell. I drive an 09 ML Brabus and would be quite interested in the Q5 Concept above if the '11 ML-class doesn't impress. Variety and options are good. Not everyone wants a Fiat 500 Shoe.

they are, though they're hardly wasting anything, an RSQ5 would sell better in north america than an RS3.

An SQ5 is allright, I mean it'll just be a range-topper like the S4 is now. An RSQ5 doesn't sound like such a good idea to me. Is there really a market for that type of car? I mean it's not like MB or BMW are developing competitors (please tell me there's no X3 M or GLK55 about to happen).

I had no idea there was an RS3 in the pipeline btw. I'm sure it'll be Europe-only, and it'll sell over there in the numbers required to make it viable.

        yeah sure @almo,
where exactly in europe do you have a amg glk? it doesn't exist.

and if you really are one of the very few drivers of a fully tuned brabus ml, well then.. enjoy. but why am i not believing you... maybe because a ml brabus is 380'000.00 US-$?

The Q5 S is on the way I live in Stuttgart Germany and on 2 seperate occasions I saw a Q5 with Quad pipes found on the S models. I will from now on be sporting my camera for a few spy shots. Being that the Audi forum is on 30 miles from Stuttgart I am sure the vehicle is being produced there.

My ex-wife was driving a highly-modded Q5 last night with manufacturer plates when she showed up to pick up the kids. Lowered, blacked out, similar looking wheels to the pictures in this post. It went like a bat-out of hell!

      FML!!!

They should quit wasting time and money, and put the V10 Biturbo in the RS5 instead.

They should quit wasting time and money, and make an RS6 Plus instead.

They should quit wasting time and money, and dump that ass ugly current a/s4-series.
They should do what they feel is right from decades of experience and what sells in Europe, not what you dictate.

      WHERE IS THE AUDI RS4?????

Seriously...there is no word at all on whether or not an RS4 is coming back especially considering how Quattro would insist on only building 1 RS vehicle at a time. So now we hear this, which means that they've ditched that formula.

So where is the RS4? Bring it please, and make it look more appealing than that bland, overstretched S4.

I'd like to buy a current one but am awaiting the 2011's just to see if they've fixed the transmission problems.
Give it 400hp and i'll bite. In reality I'm guessing just the S4 power train.

Don't forget the Audi SQL, which will be a complete headache...
